Topic-icon Linkedin Profile picture/avatar not importing into JomSocial

I think I have everything configured correctly, with "Import Avatar on Registration" set to yes.

We do have registration integrated with Joomla approval, but that shouldn't be the problem as other profile information is still importing correctly.

We've run two tests using personal linkedin accounts and no avatars show up.

If you need login details to see our setup, email me at tom@nh-icc(DOT ORG)

If the avatar's not coming in, but profile details are, check that:
* The /tmp directory for your site is writable. You can check this in System Info -> Directory Permissions. Just about everything except configuration.php should be green/writable there.
* The /images/avatar directory is writable. This would have to be checked manually on your server.

If those look right, let us know and we can come up with the next steps to check.

Thanks!
Alex

Both are write-able. In fact, I have avatars working fine on non-Jlinked registrations done directly through Jomsocial.

Perhaps this is related to our overall dead registration issue, explained here?

Guys- this is 50% of why I bought the extension. Can we get this fixed asap?

Sorry for the delay. I just tried to register on your page. Have you made modifications to the loginregister template file that is used to ask the user to fill out profile info? On that page, there should be a box for "Permission for profile import granted. ". I'm seeing that option on the left hand (login) side of the form, but not the right. That box must be selected by the user in order to import profile information that is not pre-filled with LinkedIn data, such as the avatar.

Do you know where that setting went? If you accidentally removed it, it needs to be added back. Explicit approval by a user to import their information is one of the requirements of LinkedIn's Terms of Service, and therefore something we implemented. We don't necessarily like the checkbox and requirement to ask, but it needs to be done.

Let me know if you get that added back or if you haven't made any changes to that template file. Once we understand what happened, we can investigate further, if necessary.

Thanks,
Alex

No mods by me, not on purpose anyway. In fact, I really want people's permission to import. Obviously I made several field matches to jomsocial. Feel free to use OSE To view component files etc, or I can give u FTP access.

Just wanted to give you an update on this. We went through your site and actually found a bug in JLinked itself that deals with a new CDN hosting that LinkedIn looks to be using. We'll be investigating a fix and should have something available over the next few days.

Very sorry for the problem, but we'll get you fixed up!

Thanks,
Alex

Alex. Thank you! Again, this is a hugely important feature that I need asap. So thanks for the aggressive fixes.

We came up with a solution this weekend that seems to be working. It needs to go through our full testing suite as it changes multiple files, including the shared SourceCoast library between LinkedIn and Facebook. We're planning to push out new releases of each later this week or this weekend, just so you know. It may slip past then (but not by much, if it does).

Hope that timeline works for you, but if not, let us know, and we'll see how we can help quicker.

Thanks,
Alex

Well, I had hoped to announce our network this week and start registering people, but I will have to wait for the avatar import feature.

Curious- is this kind of problem frequent when using the LinkedIN API?

I've noticed very few sites using the "log in with LinkedIN" feature, and I'm beginning to wonder if there's a very good reason for this...
