Joomla 4, JFBConnect v9 and Price Drop

There have been some major developments in Joomla over the last few days and we're thrilled to be sharing the news with you! On Thusday, August 17th, Joomla v4 was released. It's been 9 years since the last major version of Joomla. While Joomla 3 has continuously been developed and improved, Joomla 4 brings with it some major new modernizations updates.

Along with the new version of Joomla, we're proud to announce the latest release of JFBConnect. We have taken our extension apart and rebuilt it to vastly improve configuration, add dual compatibility with Joomla 4 and Joomla 3, and split out each social network into separate plugins so you can mix-and-match the features you want for your site. With the new flexibility in social network integration also comes a major price drop for JFBConnect from $59.99 to $49.99!

Joomla 4

While we're pumped about our own new version of JFBConnect, the release of Joomla 4 takes the cake. Joomla 3 was launched in May 2013 and has held onto its 2nd place position in the CMS market and grown to power over 5% of websites since.

The latest release of Joomla 4 comes with many modernizations and updates to improve administering your content. We highly recommend checking out the Launch Portal which describes the major new features focus on SEO, On-Site Search, Email Templating, Design Updates, Workflows, Speed, Accessibility and Security.

From our perspective, the updates we're most interested in for our own sites, with a little background as to why, are:

  • Email Templating - Basic text emails are boring! Being able to wrap a template around every email your site sends is going to be an amazing upgrade.
  • Design Updates - While we're not fully accustomed to the new administrator area yet, we're sure we'll get used to it. Furthermore, the updates to Bootstrap 5 and other modernizations to the template engine and Javascript libraries are very, very welcome.
  • Speed & Security - These are both critical for any website to constantly be improving. Joomla has never been a slouch here and has consistently improved in both areas throughout Joomla 3. While nothing specific to call out here, we're happy it remains a front-and-center bullet point feature for Joomla 4.

Other features, such as on-site search improvements and workflows may be game-changes for your site as well, and we highly recommend looking into the benefits these new features provide. For us, they just aren't as critical to our day-to-day work.

JFBConnect v9

JFBConnect version 9

Since late 2020, we've been hard at work on the next major version of JFBConnect. The new version is fully compatible with both Joomla 3 and Joomla 4 and brings some major usability, customization and feature improvements. While the changes are extensive, the most immediately recognizable improvements are:

  • An overhauled administrator interface for a simpler setup experience. Settings are now grouped together more logically and separated into their own related sections to help find what you're looking for quicker. Some rarely used settings have been removed altogether.
  • Social network add-on plugins - Each social network is now a separate plugin for JFBConnect. This makes updating existing or adding new social networks much easier for us and for you by not requiring an update to the entire JFBConnect component.
  • Bootstrap 5 and Bootstrap 2 compatibility for easy integration with most templates for both Joomla 3 and Joomla 4.
  • A new 'Facebook Business' API configuration area to allow additional integration with Facebook that is only available to Business Apps (vs Consumer), like Posting to Facebook Pages and Groups and reading from Feeds. This functionality has been slowly breaking in early versions of JFBConnect due to updates by Facebook.

For a full overview of the updates, see our previous JFBConnect v9 Updates blog post.

New, Lower Price

We've heard from many, many customers that they want JFBConnect, but they don't want support for over a dozen social networks. With JFBConnect v9, we are listening and moving to a new product plan. The new plan offers lower cost for most users and provides the flexibility to pick and choose the social networks you want to integrate with on your site.

Starting today, all new subscriptions to JFBConnect will be $49.99 for 6 months and will include all Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google integration. Additional social networks, like Microsoft, Yahoo, Vk, Github, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitch, Discord, Blizzard and more will be available as individual add-ons for $10 or less per social network. All subscriptions for JFBConnect or add-ons come with a renewal discount of 20% off as long as you keep your subscription active. For JFBConnect, that means a renewal rate of $39.99 every 6 months, our lowest price ever!

If you currently have an active subscription to JFBConnect, your subscription will continue to include access to all available social-network add-ons for as long as you keep your subscription active. If your subscription expires, you will need to purchase a new subscription under the new model above.
