Hi,

I have a problem regarding images in articles when I want to share it to Facebook, Google or Twitter. Automatically, the logo of the website is displayed instead of the intro image of the article.

I read in the doc that I can use open graph tags to define the image to link to, this is clear to me. However, does this also work for Google, Twitter and LinkedIn? Or only Facebook?

Kind Regards,

Prastow

JFBConnect can set both the Open Graph tags (which work for Facebook and Google) and the Twitter Card tags which work for Twitter.

If your website logo is being used, it means that either JFBConnect is setting that as the image or that no 'better' image was found to be used. To fix this, please make sure you've enabled the Open Graph - Content plugin, which will let JFBConnect scan your Joomla article contents to find a better image to use.

Additionally, on any page, you can add the following tag to make JFBConnect use a custom image for sharing to any of the networks:
{SCOpenGraph image=http://yoursite.com/link-to-best-image.jpg}

I hope that helps explain, but if not, or you still have questions, please let me know a page that's sharing the wrong image and we'll gladly investigate further.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you. I have managed to do this and it works for Facebook.

However, when sharing an article to Twitter the image is not send as well, how does that work?

Twitter uses a different system, but JFBConnect will set the Twitter image tag whenever you use the tag above as well. Twitter and all the other social networks cache the tags set on your site. When you update them, it can take up to a week to reflect on your site.

Also, try running your page through their validator to see if that helps:

The preview card on the twitter dev site looks good, but when I click the twitter share-button I only see text, no image "Share a link with your followers".

Using the Validator tool, did you submit your site for approval? Before the previews will be shown for any links from your site, the validator must be used and the results submitted.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Yes I submitted, and it accepted the website 10 seconds after submission.

When I share an article, i see text and the link in my tweet. After clicking on the tweet it expands and shows an image.

I want to use the summary_large_card so an image is always visible on twitter.

twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:image, twitter:description is present in my <head></head>

-- edit: I have managed to change summary_large_image hardcoded in Opengraph.php

But still, the image only shows when clicking on the tweet.

The preview will only show for new tweets, so try to test by creating new ones.. not ones that were already posted.

Beyond that, I'm not really sure. If Twitter isn't showing it, it sounds like a problem on their end and not something we can fix in JFBConnect. If the validator shows things correct and it's been submitted, there's not much more we could do. You may need to contact Twitter to help resolve the issue.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I see that when I click on a tweet, the tweet expands and the image is shown. However, wnat I want is that the image is always visible on the twitter timeline. I see that some tweets have an image visible, but those images are usually hosted in twitpic or flickr, could that be the reason why my image is only visible after clicking on the tweet because the images are from an external website? I cannot find a source that confirms this.

Thanks for your help so far.

Twitter will determine how the preview is shown based on many factors. For example, our 'Pinned tweet' shows the image always, but others lower down don't.

I'm not sure their algorithm, but from what you state above, it sounds like it's working as intended.. even if not as expected/desired.
