Hi
I'm trying to connect JFBConnect to Facebook.
I've followed all the steps in your excellent guide. Facebook is happy.
Whenever I try to add the info to the component in Joomla, I keep getting the following message:
"Facebook API Error: (#100) Already used by some other app"

I've tried deleting the facebook app and creating a new one and I still get that message.
Cache is clean and I've looked in the database for that ID or number and nothing is there.

I try to save some parts in the Facebook App settings tab in the component, but it saves nothing and just provides a variety of error messages saying I haven't filled in this or that. Very frustrating. I try to save the recommendation, but that doesn't do anything either.

The question is: can I set this up? Apparently not.

Help, please.

Actually, can you try changing the namespace that you've set up for the application? The error returned by Facebook is a little vague. We haven't had anyone else report this to my knowledge, but after a quick Google search, I think the namespace might be the culprit.

Hi Thanks for the feedback - I've not been able to work on this for a while, but now I'm trying to get this done.

OK - I seem to be connected now, however, I had to disable the JCHOptimize plugin and the difference in page load is staggering. How do I set that up in a way that doesn't interfere?

David

David,

Facebook login should work with the JCHOptimize plugin. If you start doing things like re-arranging scripts, etc, that's when the login functionality could break. Our suggestion would be to enable JCH Optimize with the minimum amount of compressions and options and then slowly increase from there. If you need help deciding which options to try with JCHOptimize, please let us know.

Hi Melissa

Thanks - OK I'll do that.

A final question: I don't want to see the toolbar shown in the image below. How do I turn this off, please?

There's an 'Enable Social Toolbar' button in the JFBConnect backend Configuration area.

Hi Melissa

Great stuff! Thanks.

I probably should have mentioned earlier, that I'm using this component primarily to post my own Blog entries to facebook and twitter. Nobody is able to log into my blog site, as it's where I express myself and am not looking for comments - I want them in Twitter or Facebook.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

I've only just worked out that I need to create channels so that my blog posts appear in Facebook. I started to do that, but when I try to choose a user, the interface finds no user. I even created a new user with my facebook login credentials, but that still doesn't show. I can't work out from the setup instructions how to create this kind of channel user, as I don't want people to have to log into my website.

I tried going iinto facebook and set up a channel owner, but can't find anything relating to "channel". This is complicated :-(

Help?

We understand that JFBConnect can be a bit complicated. We do everything we can to simplify things, but each social network has their own restrictions on what steps must be taken to perform each action. We'll help get you going however we can though.

First, for setting up Channels, yes, you need to allow authentication on your site from Facebook. That's required to get the proper permissions from Facebook to post to your Facebook Page. Once authentication is setup though and you login to grant those permissions, you can simply disable the SCLogin module. So, the steps you'll need to take are:
* Setup your Facebook Application - It seems like you've done this already
* Enable the SCLogin module on your front-end (this can be to a 'hidden' page or just enabled temporarily)
* Authenticate with the Facebook account that is an admin of your Facebook Page
* In the Channels area, you should be able to setup a Channel for your Facebook Page. Set this up and select the user you just authenticated with.
* Once you save, you will need to authenticate again on the front-end with Facebook. This is when JFBConnect requests the extra permissions since you now have a channel setup for this user
* Check the admin area. There should be no errors now.

You should be able to post from the front-end using the 'Create Post' button or setup the channel to auto-post content (we can help here of course if you run into issues).

I hope that helps,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thanks for the input.

I've published the login module and logged in on the frontend with the relevant details from both my facebook and twitter acount. That seemed to work OK
I've been able to select the user for both facebook and twitter.

Twitter appears to be OK

Facebook seems to be OK

Now I want to test if my posts get sent. . I've set the app to development mode. I'm unclear if I now write the post in the backend of joomla as usual and the posts just get sent, or if I have to write something in the frontend logged in as the facebook user and then again as the twitter user. If the latter, I don't seem to have any editor rights on the joomla frontend.

Can you advise?
