Topic-icon Share buttons not working properly

6 years 5 months ago #63065 by fb_564705464
I may have some conflict going on or open graph or global config settings awry that's causing this, but I'm having difficulty getting share buttons to work on a particular website and I'm at a loss. I need some help. It's not pulling the OG image or it's giving a share of the general site instead of the specific page/article intended and it's not pulling an OG description. The client is more than a little stressed and I'm pressed for time as a result of this not working as intended. Please help.

This is probably caused by the Open Graph tags being set incorrectly.

There are several ways that JFBConnect can set these tags, as described here . If the extension for the pages is a supported extension (such as Joomla articles, K2 items, etc), you can enable the appropriate 'Open Graph' plugin that is installed with JFBConnect. For instance, enable 'Open Graph - Content' for Joomla articles and JFBConnect will automatically set the image and description based on the article. You can have further control over the tags by creating an Open Graph object in JFBConnect backend > Social Meta > Objects section. If you're using a different extension, you can manually insert Open Graph tags using the following syntax: {SCOpenGraph og:description=My Description}{SCOpenGraph og:image=FULL/PATH/TO/IMAGE}

Once you make any changes to the page/OG tags, you'll need to re-scrape the page with the Facebook Sharing Debugger . Enter the URL, click Debug, then click on Scrape Again button on the new page.

If you think you have the tags set up correctly but the image preview is still incorrect, please provide a specific URL so that I can see the page.

How can I message you page credentials to see inside our CP without also disclosing to the public? I believe I have two of the open graph plugins installed that came with JFBC but I worry I may have conflicts with similar plugins not part of your software in the case of this particular site.

When using the debugger, after re-scraping, the OG image disappeared altogether and I get a strange happening on the OG URL where it doubles the website address to main page:

mysite.com/https://mysite.com for og:url Meta Tag Where (mysite) is actually the URL of the website (that I don't wish to publicly disclose).

Also, comment moderation is becoming a problem as I have this ability on some articles and not others. Perplexing.

I'm also getting this in the debugger but all of these properties are set in the component: The following required properties are missing: og:url, og:type, og:title, og:image, og:description, fb:app_id

Click on the envelope icon under my avatar to send me a private message. If you send me backend credentials plus a specific URL to see the problem on the front-end, that'd be the fastest way I can help figure out the issue.

[Edited to add]
* Is the page you're having a problem with a Joomla article? Or is it from another extension - EasyBlog, K2, etc?
* If the correct Open Graph plugins are enabled, and you haven't set JFBConnect to skip the component, I'd have to investigate why the standard Open Graph tags are missing - fb:app_id and og:title should always be set by JFBConnect...
* The comment moderation may have something to do with the incorrect og:url.

I'm looking into it. Trying to narrow down what's generating the incorrect og:url tag right now....
