Hi there,

Im trying to set this up. Not having a great time so far.

Ok main problem at this time is this.

Im trying to set up a channel for posting to our sites Facebook page however when I try and add the user (which is my own administrative user) who has management control over the page, I get the following:

The selected user has not granted the "manage_pages" permission. Please have them login on the front-end of the site and accept the correct permission.

So I have looked around the site here and found a couple of posts advising to try a few things which I have already done.

But the more I think about it, the more I am concerned that the app created on Facebook does not ask new users to grant manage_page access. That would be a bit of overkill to ask that of everyone who asked to join the site.

So Id appreciate some advice on how to make this work as Im obviously missing something here.

thanks,

Paula

The channels feature is not intended to be used for all users on your site. When you create the channel in the backend, the manage_pages will only be requested for the Channel Owner on the front-end, not all users.

If you scroll down to the Troubleshooting steps at www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/post...reate-social-channel you will see the list of suggestions on how to fix the manage_pages message. Can you follow each one of these steps and see if that helps? If you run into issues still after these steps, please let us know. Also, please note, when it says log in on the front-end, this will need to be done using Facebook credentials, not Joomla credentials.

Hi Mel,

I think I got there in the end both with Facebook and Twitter. Wow its complicated but I guess thats just as much a function of Fb and Tw as much as anything you guys have done.

The curious thing I find is that the streams have to be associated with site users rather than supplied the credentials some other way. Fortunately we use different email addresses for our twitter account and our Facebook account however I could see that not being the case quite often and then it becomes a bit of a kludge having separate users on the site just for the channels.

Anyways, onwards we go. Were now trying to get our head around actions.

thanks,

Paula

With JFBConnect, a single Joomla user can be mapped to different social users, regardless of whether the email addresses match. Say you initially log in with your FB user and a Joomla user is created. Then when logged in with that FB user, you can use the SCLogin module with the "Show Connect Account Button(s)" option (or the JFBConnect Accounts menu item) to then connect the existing user to other social credentials.

Were now trying to get our head around actions.

Before you begin looking at Actions, I would suggest reading Facebook's changelog on the deprecation of custom actions with future versions of the Graph API. If you're going to be using the standard Facebook actions like news.reads, you can proceed. However, if you're going to be doing custom actions:

"Deprecation of Custom Open Graph Actions - v2.8 no longer allows apps to create new Open Graph action types or object types or publish open graph stories that use custom action or object types. Approximately 90 days after the v2.8 release, no versions of the API will allow the creation of new Open Graph action or object types. Additionally, all App Collections will be removed from people's profiles at that time. Approximately 1 year after the v2.8 release, no version of the API will allow publishing stories that use custom action or object types. Please see our deprecation guide for more information."
