Topic-icon No FB Login with Internet Explorer 10

hi there,

seems JFBC won't work with new IE10 (in Windows 8). Have tried different things, such as changing security levels, allowing all kind of scripts in IE10, disable java script in JFBC module in order to get login to work. However, none of this helped and I am running out of ideas now. Any advise?

You can test it here: www.project-management-consulting.de/index.php/k10-net

By the way, JFBC works fine in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. So, what makes IE10 so different?

Cheers
Randolph

Randolph,
The "Sign in with Facebook" button that you are using is not from JFBConnect, it's from JomSocial. You'll want to follow our JomSocial Facebook Integration Guide on how to properly use JFBConnect with JomSocial.

By leaving the JomSocial Facebook login button enabled, JomSocial is also re-including the Facebook Javascript library. Having that loaded and initialized twice on the page can cause the problems you're seeing. You'll need to disable that first and test again. If you still have issues then, just let us know and we'll gladly help investigate more.

Thanks,
Alex

I just tested IE10 on Windows 7 and could see the button, so that's a good start.

Can you let us know:
* In the Internet Options -> Security, what level is IE set at? It should be "Internet". If it's Local Intranet or anything more restrictive, that may be the issue.
* Can you go to Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> IE (No Add-Ons) and try there? That's the menu item for Win7, not sure what it is in Win 8. Without Add-ons, that may help diagnose if an add-on is causing the problem.

Let us know if either of those help.

Thanks,
Alex

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this. We're unsure what's happening, but it seems that Facebook's callback event after the user logs in isn't being triggered in IE10. It's working in most sites, so it's difficult to narrow down what's different about yours.

Can you please try something for me to help narrow down what may work? Please create an instance of the SCLogin module and set it to display somewhere on your site. In the Parameters, please set the Login Button Type to "Image" or "Text". Then, use the fields below to provide an image or text for the link. Try that button and see if it works. That will bypass a bit of Facebook's Javascript functionality and may fix your issue. If so, we'll help you implement that on the Login page that you linked to.

Thanks,
Alex

I find that sclogin, even when set to image rather than javascript button, doesn't work on many cellphones when testing with Opera mobile emulator. While I'm a great fan of Sourcecoast, it has to be said that loginradius is a far more reliable login.
Hence for the time being I will reinstate Facebook on Loginradius and alert users to use SClogin to connect accounts to timelines.
As for Jomsocial, they said that version 3.0 would be totally mobile friendly. They even came up with an idea of hosting, but that went quiet.

Julie,
I'm not sure if you meant to post in this topic, or another. JomSocial wasn't mentioned above and neither were mobile phones. This is related to an IE10 only issue. I'm glad you've found a solution that works for you though, and best of luck with your site.

Enough/Randolph,
If you're still having IE10 issues, please try the above suggestion of using an image to help us narrow down what may be the problem.

Thanks,
Alex

Are you seeing the same behavior, where the popup box disappears but nothing happens?

We've found the bug-report from Facebook that concerns this issue below. They note that it was fixed in early December, but obviously it wasn't since there are other users reporting the issue in the comments. This is not a JFBConnect-specific issue as it's affecting other Facebook integration apps:
developers.facebook.com/bugs/436663883038917

Let me know if the issue is the same and we'll create a new bug report on Facebook noting the issues you're having and reference the original bug report above.

Thanks,
Alex
