Hi, great work on the component/modules/plugins.

im trying to setup a canvas only facebook app that will allow viewing other signed-up Facebook members, sending them messages, and commenting on their profiles.
think of it as a kind of a dating app.
apart from your components, can you recommend on how to setup a user profile viewing/searching component ?
do i need something like community builder or jomsocial to set this up ? or is this possible using JFBConnect and joomla only ?
thanks

While you may be able to do something like you're looking for with JFBConnect, it would take a lot of development to build the profile system, create the template/views for it, add searching capabilities, etc.

I'd highly recommend using something like JomSocial or Community Builder for this as those handle almost all the details out of the box. JFBConnect can then integrate with those to import the user's profile/avatar into it to get things going even quicker. Personally, we prefer JomSocial due to the increased flexibility and overall design of it. It's much easier to tailor things how you need with JomSocial whether you need to change the functionality or just the looks.

That's not to say CB is bad, but it's just much harder to change how it works if you don't like it exactly how it is after you install it.

Hope that helps get you started, but if you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
1. i just installed jomsocial with all plugins and modules, added my app details in the facebook connect module and published it.
2. ran JFBConnect - AutoTune and made sure all is green.
3. ran JFBConnect Remote Error Check, it produces this error:
Warn: Another Facebook extension is installed, including the Facebook Javascript library, and may conflict.
4. "JFBConnect - Profiles - JomSocial plugin" is installed and enabled.
5. fb connect jomsocial module is published on home page.

6. from the direct link doogri.tautktiv.com/ this works fine (after going through an "invalid certificate" message)
but from within facebook, going through the app canvas, clicking any of the "login with facebook" button, loads the connection box and then nothing happens and im still not connected.
i'de like to have users autologin to their facebook profiles and use jomsocial functionality.

what am i doing wrong ?
could this be related to the ssl certificate error ?
i have a certificate but perhaps some non-secure links in the page are causing this message.

ant help would be welcome.

Boaz,
When integrating JFBConnect with JomSocial, you should *not* enable JomSocial's Facebook integration. They conflict with each others and JFBConnect provides a lot more functionality.

For more information on integrating with JomSocial, please see:
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/thir...ration-for-jomsocial

As for SSL, you do not need an SSL certificate for Facebook login functionality on your site. It is required for some other features, but for what you're looking to do right now, having one (or not) shouldn't be a problem.

Hope that helps!

cool, that works.

btw, there is a bug when logging and these conditions exist:
community builder is not installed and "JFBConnect - Profiles - Community Builder" plugin is enabled.
i got a: "required file missing" error.

Yeah, there's a few oddities like that in the profile plugins. We're planning a full overhaul of our profile plugin system for the next major release (v5.0) due out at the beginning of next year.

Until then, and good advice for everything, is don't install/enable any extensions you don't need. So, if you don't have CB installed, don't enable our integration plugin with it.

Hope that helps, and glad you got things going. Should you need anything else, just let us know!

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review on the Joomla Extension Directory for JFBConnect or our support. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated:

Thanks, and best of luck!
