Alex,
This time I am totally confused.
First, I cannot find any file of version v4.2.1 to download on www.sourcecoast.com/joomla-facebook/ .
Second, the administrator’s panel of my Joomla site informs me that I have 17 updates of JFBConnect but when I go to URL shown in the installation panel, which is www.sourcecoast.com/index.php?option=com_ars&view=release&id=3
I find there only files for 4.2.0 version which I have already installed earlier.
As to the Send button, now it shows up on my pages although half of it is hidden. You can see it e.g. on
www.moznainaczej.com.pl/gdzie-wystapie. It is the first button from the right “Przycisk W”. It should be “Przycisk Wyslij”.
Regards,
Andrzej

Andrzej,
The download package from the "My Subscriptions" area will always have all the latest files for JFBConnect. If the overview page of JFBConnect shows files are out of date, the big download package will grab them. The overview area also has a 'One-Click Update' button that will update the main component and required plugins automatically. You can use that to upgrade the critical features which were updated in this release.

As for the links to individual files you mentioned, the link you post is for the original 4.2.0 files. The link below will show you just the files that are available for the 4.2.1 release, in case you want to just grab the updated files:
www.sourcecoast.com/index.php?option=com_ars&view=release&id=7

Hope that helps. We are working on an improved update and installation process for the next big release (v4.3) so that it's less confusing.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
I'm not sure if the next release is going to solve the next issue since this thread started before the last upgrade was released, so I'll continue this thread...

I believe I have the entire component and it's sub-components up to date. At lease in the overview panel of JFBConnect it looks so.
But in the Joomla's cpanel, it says that there are 14 updates available, all of them are related to JFBConnect... (and of course, the instruction to update manually).

Also, the mod_jfbcrecommendations_j1.7_j2.5_v4.1.2.zip contains the xml file which also says version 4.1.2, but in the overview panel says that only version 4.1.0 is available... so the status is red.

You have the access to my site's back-end, so you can see for your self.

Emanuel.

Emanuel,
Absolutely, feel free to continue this thread :) The next release will be the 4.2.2 release, coming out next week. It will be a minor bug-fix release only, with no big features. It won't be until the 4.3 release (this summer) that we will have a simple installation/upgrade methods implemented. We realize it's not hassle-free right now, and we will fix that soon.

For the Updates Manager area of Joomla, if you hit the "Purge Cache" button and then "Find Updates", that should make Joomla re-verify the currently installed versus available versions. If not, please let us know.

Finally, for the JFBCRecommendations module, we'll look into why that's happening and if we possibly released the wrong version. If so, I'll let you know.

Thanks, and any feedback or other suggestions for improvement in all areas of JFBConnect are always welcome. We definitely know the installation procedure could use some help, and have plans on how to do so, but if you have suggestions, we're all ears!

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
I went into www.sourcecoast.com/index.php?op … e&id=7 as you recemended got 3 zip files of which 2 installed sucessfully (not unziped) and the alphauserpoints_v4.2.1.zip leads to message "XML file not found". When I try to install an XML file from the archive I got the message "archive type unknown", which seems quite logical since this is not an archive at all.
Besides, after the installation of several files from the 2 zips the Joomla admin pannel still shows 17 required updates all of them but one for 4.2.0 version and one for 1.1.1. Quite confusing! When you release 4.2.2 shall I be able to upgrade directly my 4.2.0 into 4.2.2 in skipping the 4.2.1?

Andrzej

Andrzej,
For Alpha User Points, as mentioned above, those are files for integration with a different extension (Alpha User Points). If you're not using AUP, you don't need to install those files. If you are, you need to unzip those files and use AUP's installer to upload them. The installer for the XML files is located in the Alpha User Points -> Plugins area.

For the JFBConnect files in the Update Manager, if you update manually and click the "Purge Cache" button and then "Find Updates" again, they should disappear. Again, we're hoping to improve the Update Manager issues with the 4.3 release this summer.

Regarding v4.2.2, when it's released later this week, you can install it on top of any other version and it will update it automatically. You don't need to install 4.2.1 first, it will work with 4.1.x or 4.2.0 as well.

Hope that helps,
Alex

The official way to upgrade JFBConnect is to simply re-install it just like it was new. You can do that by:
* Downloading the newest package from our download area, unzip it and install the main component.
* Then, if you have any additional modules installed (JFBCLike, JFBCSubscribe, etc) or additional profile plugins (JomSocial, Community Builder, etc), install those plugins from the new package file as well.
* That will update all of your files and your database as needed.
* Unless you have Alpha User Points installed, disregard that zip file.

Hope that helps, but if you run into any issues, let us know!

Thanks,
Alex

Andrzej,
Glad to hear you got it going, and sorry for all the confusion!

Now that 4.2.2 is installed, it should be pretty easy going forward from here... hopefully!

Thanks,
Alex
