Updates installation was created by andbli
I have foud a message on my administrator's pannel about new updates. The authomatic installation does not work. With every zip file there is a message "Must be updated manually". I have dowloaded all these files to my PC and tried to install them using the Installer but it does not work either. What am I doing wrong?

Andrzej,
When you try to install them with the installer, what happens? That is the normal process right now. You need to use the installer to update the files, which is just like installing the component and extensions the first time.

The 4.2 release has an automatic updater for the main component, so that will be easier to update going forward. We're working on a completely new installation and upgrade flow for the next big release as we know that's an ugly area of our extensions right now.

Please let us know what problems you're running into, and we'll help you figure out a solution.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
Thank you for unswering so promptly. Before I start explaining my problem I have to say that I am using a polish version of Joomla, hence the Joomla texts of messages and the names of operations and options, that I use, are my own translations. They may not be quite like Joomla really calls them. Now my problem:
When I try an authomatic update a message pops up "update failed".
Then I go to the manual installation and load a zip file into the dialog field (first option). When I run the installation procedure I get the message "no installation XML has been found".
By that opportunity yet another question. Some times ago I had a problem with the Send button where popup was being cutoff by my template. You helped me fixig the problem. In has worked for a few weeks but now the Send buttons simply disappeared from my sites.

Make sure when you download the installation files from SourceCoast that you unzip the original zip file before trying to install. You should be installing a file that looks like com_jfbconnect_j1.7-2.5_v4.2.0.zip. If that file is giving you the "No installation XML has been found", that would be very strange. If so though, let us know.

Regarding the Send button, we've heard another report of the send button being 'missing'. So far, it looks to be a Facebook bug, not JFBConnect. Can you try going to the page below and putting your URL into it?
developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/
If the Send button doesn't show there, that's an indication that it's on Facebook's end. Let us know, and we can file a bug report with them.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
Indeed it works but with one exception. It does not work with the file alphauserpoints_v4.2.0.zip that I attach. Since that file was the first on the list I have tried it first and when failed I did not try the others.
Regarding your second recommendation (about the send button) I followed it but it did not work. I have entered my URL as requested but I did not enter anything in Step 2 – Get Open Grahp Tags. Should I? As a matter of fact I do not know nothing about Open Grahp Tags.
Regards,
Andrzej

Andrzej,
We released version v4.2.1 of JFBConnect today, which has some fixes for some issues. I'd recommend downloading that and starting with the newest release before trying to upgrade.

For Alpha User Points, those are files for integration with a different extension (Alpha User Points). If you're not using AUP, you don't need to install those files. If you are, you need to unzip those files and use AUP's installer to upload them.

If the Send button isn't showing on the other page, that's an indication that it's a Facebook bug, not a JFBConnect bug. Can you post the URL you were trying to use so we can test? If it doesn't show for us, we can submit it as a Facebook bug for them to look into further.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the quick reply. Also to add to what ANDBLI was saying, I get an error when trying to install Alphauserpoints component. The precise error is:: JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file

For Alpha User Points, those are files for integration with a different extension (Alpha User Points). If you're not using AUP, you don't need to install those files. If you are, you need to unzip those files and use AUP's installer to upload them. The AUP installer is inside their component in the "Plugins" panel, I believe. Make sure you use the XML files inside the zip file, instead of the zip file itself.

Thanks,
Alex
