Hey Alex,

I've gone through your documentation, and tried to set everything up as you specified, but I'm still not having any luck sending invites via the JFBC request module.

I also see other posts about this, but figured I should start my own, so as to not piggyback on someone else's issue.

I have set up the canvas app. I have enabled the module, and done all the settings in JFBConnect. I get a nice popup of all my Facebook friends, and can select them. When I send the request, I do not get a confirmation message. But, I am redirected to my Thank you page.

So far I have tried sending it 4 times to my wife. I see nothing on her page. But, in the JFBconnect admin, I do see confirmation that it sent to her 4 times.

I do have ssl enabled.

The only problem I can think of is that I didn't see some of the settings that you mentioned in the setup
==============
Please make sure in your Facebook application that the following settings are enabled in the Settings -> Advanced area:
Requests 2.0 Efficient: Enabled
Upgrade to Requests 2.0: Enabled
================

I don't see these options anywhere - think that could be the source of my troubles?

Ryan,
You won't get a confirmation after the Requests are sent.. that's what the Thank You page is for :)

Don't worry about the Migration settings "Requests 2.0", etc. Those settings are enabled by default now. For users that had apps created in 2011, they have the options available to use the old setting for a time. That time actually just expired on February 15th. Now, Facebook requires the settings above. I just removed those steps from the configuration guide.

Can you post to where I can see the Request Module on your site to test? Once a request is sent, it should show up in the little Jewel notification area at the top of Facebook in the Globe icon.. just so you know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hey Alex,

Ok, I have re-enabled the module. If you go to our homepage, you'll see it on the right hand side. www.laughablenews.com

Thanks!

I'm not receiving it either. That usually means your Canvas isn't setup right.

What's your Facebook Canvas URL? It should look something like:
apps.facebook.com/laughablenews/

You configure that in the Facebook Application area as the "Namespace". You should also be able to find the link in your "Canvas" tab of JFBConnect. Make sure everything in there says it's configured correctly as well.

Thanks,
Alex

Ok, I was missing something. apps.facebook.com/laughablenews works now. Can you try one more time and see if the invite works for you? I'm just out and about, and have no access to my wife's Facebook to check :)

That worked. Request was received. Would recommend editing your Facebook App and in the Advanced section set the Canvas Width to "Fluid". Will make the page show up fully in the window.

Now that it works though, you can play around a lot more. If there was a setting you fixed that we should call out in our guide or something, please let us know. I need to get back to finishing the guide.. little slow :(

Let us know how it goes!

Honestly, the whole procedure had my head spinning :) I'm not sure if I missed something, or if it wasn't included. I'll just assume I missed it...

Anyway, it was under the Basic settings page. Half way down there is a checkmark for "App on Facebook". I checked it, and it opens a new area. The canvas page was filled in, but I had missed the spaces for Canvas URL, and Secure Canvas URL. I entered my website url in the first, and the https version of my url in the 2nd. And saved.

That was all.

I also changed my page width to fluid. Thank you.

Now I just need to dig a little deeper and figure out this whole canvas app thing. It seems pretty cool that I can make menu links for all sorts of things on my site, and have those page pop up on Facebook.

Hmmm - so, I've been playing around with it, and I think I'm still missing something. If I click the link in the module, a new facebook window pops up, as it should. I see the message I want to send, and I am able to click any friends (can't you select all?). So, I click on my wife's name, and send. She gets a notification in the "gem" at the top of her facebook page. But, all it says is:

"Your wife" sent you a request in The Laughable News Inc.

If I click it, it just redirects me to the Facebook Canvas app (my homepage).

I don't see the message that was in the popup window(just before I selected my friends and clicked send). As it is, it is just going to be weird/frustrating for anyone who gets redirected. They won't know what happened, or why they are there.

And, on the right side of the canvas app screen, I'm not sure what is going on. There are several messages about "My Wife" using The Laughable News Inc. There is an option for ME to USE it as well. If I click that, it just refreshed the screen.

So, do you have any advice? This seems really powerful, but I just don't get it yet.

Should I be redirecting to a specific page that welcomes people, and tells them that their friends thought they might like my website?

Help??!

The "xxx has sent a Request" is a Facebook thing. It's been reported as a bug many, many times and has been somewhat ignored by Facebook. If the user clicks into the Apps and Games link on the left hand sidebar from their Facebook Homepage or the "See All Notifications" at the bottom of the gem dropdown, you should see the full message there. We're hoping they make it so that the same text appears in the gem soon. It may be because the message can be much longer than the gem area that that happens, but not sure.

As for when the user lands on your page, yes, you can either have a special destination URL that explains things or do what you want. We're also investigating setting a special system (that blue bar) message that will show to users when they accept the request.

For the "Blah is using Laughable News", that's part of Facebook. Once a user accepts or views your Canvas in Facebook, that can show up in the timeline area. That's great for getting more users to your page.. so have a good Canvas landing page. You can set a default Canvas landing page by simply setting the Canvas Url in your application to a different page on your Joomla site. That allows you to create a standard "Welcome Facebook User" page for anyone that happens upon your Canvas page.

Hope that helps.. 4.2 will have some improvements in the Request system. It's definitely the most complex thing we've implemented, and we do plan to try to simplify things.
