Not sure. It depends on what version of JFBConnect you're using. Facebook is constantly making changes, and we're always keeping things up to date. If you post the URL of the page you're using JFBConnect on, we can let you know what the likely issue is and if upgrading is the solution.

For your information, Facebook recently changed how authentication works and our 4.0 release (from September) fully supports the new mechanism. If you're using a release older than that, that is likely the cause.

Hope that helps,
Alex

It seems that our problem was with turning on the "System cache" for Joomla 1.5. It started working again after we turned it off. It seems the caching is causing problems with our JFB connect like button, and the JFB Connect log in with facebook button. Do you know if there is any way around this? We would like to keep the cache solution to make the site run quicker.

You know, I just received an email from facebook developers that might be relevant. Perhaps you can help me make sense of this?

Subject: Update your app to support OAuth 2.0 before 12/13/11

facebook

Dear Developer,

As part of our continued efforts to migrate all apps to OAuth 2.0, we opted in all apps using the new JavaScript SDK to OAuth 2.0 this afternoon at 11am PT and reverted at 1:30pm because we noticed that your app has not migrated. Please ensure that you have set the oauth param in FB.init to true and that you are using FB.getAuthResponse to obtain the access token.

Read more in the OAuth2 migration announcement, updates to the new JS SDK blog post, or our JS SDK docs.

If your app was affected today, please ensure that you have made these changes by December 13th, 2012 to avoid any disruption with your users.

Thanks,Facebook Developer Relations

To your first question, JFBConnect should work just fine with the System - Cache plugin. To make them happy with each other though, simply make sure that the System - Cache plugin is ordered after/higher than the JFBCSystem plugin. Generally, the Cache plugin should be the last to execute (so that it's caching everything that the plugins have already done).

As for the Facebook developer email, we hadn't seen that before but it's directly related to what I mention with the new authentication system implemented in 4.0. It sounds like the system used in JFBConnect 3.x has a deadline now, and that deadlines sounds like December 13th. There's not a simple 1-line change that you can do in 3.x to update it, or we'd gladly provide it. You really will need to upgrade to 4.0 for the Facebook login functionality to work after that date. If you don't use the Login functionality, all of the social widgets (Like, Comments, etc) will continue to work just fine.

Hope that helps explain, and good luck,
Alex

Okay, we would like to pursue this. From my understanding we have to update for our facebook log-in to work after that date? If this is correct, I guess we should renew our subscription with you guys, and we will. Also, I'm a novice, will you help me make the update, or at least point me to where I can find some instructions?

Yes, according to that email, you'd need to update by that date. We hadn't been aware of that date, specifically, until you posted that email. It's been 'coming' for a long time now.

As for upgrading, it's extremely simple. You should just have to install the extension like it's brand new. The installation will upgrade your JFBConnect configuration automatically. All your old settings, users, app configuration, etc should remain the same. You should check your settings as plenty of new features have been added in the last few releases, but all features you were using should continue just like normal. You may just want to play with some of the new stuff.

For our 'upgrade guide', see the linke below. There's more information above though :)
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/upgrade-guide

Of course, if you run into any issues along the way, we'll gladly help out how we can.

Thanks,
Alex

I thought I did that, and everything works fine, except the log-in with facebook option. I click on it and nothing happens. I turned off the cache and it works again. Perhaps I did something wrong? Can you describe to me in more detail how to order the plug-ins?

Can you post (or Private Message) the URL that you're having problems with? It sounds like there's a Javascript error, but we'll have to see the page to understand what it is and recommend a fix. Usually, these are pretty easy to solve, and it usually has to do with having another Facebook extension installed on your site causing a conflict.. just so you know in case you want to look ahead of time :)
