Hello,
I just purchased and installed Jlinked. In the slogan I have Registration Component set to Jomsocial - and I have all redirections, except for the logout in the component configuration set to -profile.

When a user tries to login with linkedin a popup box appears, asking you to enter your linkedin username/password and the click the checkbox to allow the apps to talk to each other.

When you click okay.....it brings you to a welcome screen asking you to login or register. Isn't that what logging in with another profile is supposed to avoid?

How do I fix this? I want my users to login in with linkedin - and then be logged in....not have to login twice or register.

Thanks!
Rob

Rob,
Unfortunately, LinkedIn has no method to retrieve a user's email address. Because of that, the user needs to fill out an abbreviated registration form so that the proper Joomla user can be created.

Even though there is a registration process on your site as well, their LinkedIn avatar and profile information can be imported for the user, which can skip a lot of form-filling, depending on how your site is configured.

We've helped a few users switch the registration side of that page you reference around so that all that is there is an email field. It's pretty easy to hide the name field, as that's imported from LinkedIn. Additionally, the username and password fields can be setup to automatically generate values. That makes the registration process on your site as minimal as possible, while getting the one bit of information actually required, the email address. If you'd like help in doing that, let us know. We'll also be implementing options to hide those fields in an upcoming release.

If the mini-registration is a deal-breaker for you, no problem. We have a 30-day money back guarantee for just these reasons.

Hope that helps explain,
Alex

Hi Alex,

It sounds like it explains it - but I may be just having a particularly "dense" day ;)

I've used another tool/extension that allowed a user to log into my site by just putting in their email address that they used on linkedin (and I just re-installed it and tried it to make sure I wasn't imagining things...).

I'm thinking this may be too confusing - first the user is "signing in with linkedin" ....then they come to a "Welcome Robert!" screen......then they read a "Thanks for signing in using Linkedin" and finally being asked to "login" or register"...

Maybe if I could edit all that text on the "Welcome" page - starting with "welcome" ;) Can you tell me where I would do that?

Thanks!
Rob

Rob,
For the other extension you were using, you would have had to authenticate the LinkedIn app at some point with your LinkedIn. Then, the extension you were using sounds like it simply asked for the user's email address to create the account locally. That's what I was recommending with the changes we can help with above... hide all the other fields on the Login or Register page, except email (since we need that).

For editing all the text, it's pretty easy. All of that should be contained in the JLinked language file at /languages/en_GB/en_GB.com_jlinked.ini. If you want to hide the left hand side of the form, we can even help with that ;)

Let me know if that helps explain or not. If you need more info though, we're here to help!

Hi Alex,
Sorry for the delay in responding - go ahead and close this as solved! We're definitely going to keep the component - I just edited some language and it's working great.

I do have another question.....But I'll open a new one :)

Thanks!
