We keep having issues with the og:image. Can you assist us in getting the configuration correct please? shall I open a ticket?

This is a ticket :)

In general, just enabling our Open Graph plugins for the extensions you're using will try to set the image automatically, when possible. Beyond that, you can always use the {SCOpenGraph image=http://yoursite.com/link-to-image} tag to set the image on individual pages.

Beyond that, can you describe what issues are you having? In what extension or what pages? If you run your page through the Facebook URL Debug tool , are any errors or warnings reported?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex, thanks for the quick response.

Well, if you test our homepage for one... it gives:og:image was not found.

See: richpreview.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fopgroeigids.nl%2F

but I have had issues before inconsistently on EasySocial and EasyBlog pages. we also use jReviews....

I thought it might be best if you could login and have a quick look to see what you find in our current JFBConnect setup and maybe you could help with some suggestions as well... especially on things like this and Open Graph setup...

I'm not sure what component is generating your home page. Many times, the home page is just a Joomla article. If that's the case, the image from the article would automatically be taken. If there is no image in the article, you'll need to set the image manually since JFBConnect can't just make up an image. You can set the OG image with the following tag:
{SCOpenGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg}
That tag can go in the article contents, a module on the page or even your template somewhere. Anywhere that displays on the page will work.

The same goes for JReviews and EasyBlog. If you enable our Open Graph plugins, they will try to find the best image for the page. However, if the EasyBlog post doesn't have an image, for instance, then you'll need to set one using the tag.

A good idea is to use the Open Graph defaults option in the JFBConnect -> Open Graph configuration area. There, you can set a default image to add to every page. We order the images according to the Open Graph spec so Facebook *should* use default image you set last and any other images that were added by our plugins or through the above tag first. With that, you at least have an image set for every page, which is good for a logo or something similar.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex

thanks Alex...

Our home page has no components only modules. RokSprocket, Custom HTML, jReviews, etc..

We had a default set before, but that caused issues by overriding the ES stream post images...

I want a default to be used ONLY when there is no other option...

Have you logged in to our back-end to check our JFBC setup?

Thanks, Andrew

also get this error:

I would add the {SCOpenGraph image=....} tag to one of the Custom HTML modules then.

I want a default to be used ONLY when there is no other option...

We don't have a method to do that right now. It may be something we add in the future, but the Open Graph spec allows for multiple og:image tags. The problem arises when other extensions also try to add Open Graph tags, which can break the ordering.

I haven't yet. The only thing I'd check is if you have the right Open Graph plugins enabled for your site though. Those plugins will automatically try to generate the best og tags for the extensions they support. Beyond that, it's a process of figuring out which pages aren't working how you want and fixing them.

Errors That Must Be Fixed

That's a valid error. An open graph image has to have the full URL, including http:// or https://. That og:image tag is *not* being set by JFBConnect though. It looks to be coming from EasyBlog. You'd need to contact them to determine the best method to fix.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

How do we set a default image on our EasySocial (Community) Stream page: www.opgroeigids.nl/community

and this one is from EasyBlog: www.opgroeigids.nl/leeshoek/blog

Do we also need to use: {SCOpenGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg}

I want a standard image set for that page, blog page and also for our homepage.

How do I do it? As currently the Community page gives the image of the last post on the page...

Thanks...

Yes, using the {SCOpenGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg} tag is what you'd want to do. That will set the og:image tag for whatever page the tag is used on.

That should do it, but of course, run your page through the Open Graph Debug tool to test whenever you update the tags.

Thanks,
Alex

and that is the best 'most recommended' way of doing it?

In other words I have to add {SCOpenGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg} tag to all pages in a custom html type module on that page... Is there a better way?
