Hi there, I recently purchased your extension, as it promises to be the solution for my Jomsocial community.

It looks promising, but I do encouter some issues. Let me just start with the first one. if it is solved, I will continue.

this is about logging in with LinkedIn. I did the auto install and also read your manual. I think I did it right. I can see the LinkedIn button at registration. I was already a registered member and when I logged in with the LinkedIn button, it worked fine.

But, after this first succesfull login, it doesn't work anymore, Now when I click on the LinkedIn button to logon, it seems to last forever, trying to connect to LinkedIn. After a few minutes I get the message that There was no succes trying to connect to LinkedIn.

I really don't know what is wrong here, especially because it workes one time.

Can you please help me out here?

I'm seeing slightly different behavior than you describe, though it's not any better.

When I try to register, it brings me to LinkedIn for authentication. Then, there's a very long period while your page loads. When it does, I'm on the home page and not logged in. I'm not seeing any error message like you mention though.

Can you check/try a few things for me:
* Disable SEF in Joomla, temporarily, to see if that helps.
* In the JFBConnect -> Configuration area, set the "Disable SSL Verification" to "Yes".
* In the JFBConnect -> Configuration area, set the "Debug Mode" setting to "Yes". When the page finally re-loads, it may have a better description of the error that is happening.

Let us know how that goes. I haven't seen this issue before, but we'll gladly help investigate.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply. I did what you adviced. Turned Joomla SEF off, set the "Disable SSL Verification" to "Yes" and set the "Debug Mode" setting to "Yes".

As far as I can see no change, but maybe you can try. The error message that I got was on my iPad...

When attempting to login via LinkedIn, we see the following error message at the top of the page:
File Attachment:

The connection timed out error indicates your server is unable to make outgoing SSL requests. You may need to contact your server provider to make sure that outgoing SSL requests aren't blocked either by a firewall or server restriction. Please note that this does not mean your site needs an SSL certificate, just that it can make outgoing requests to other servers to get information, like a user's profile data.

Hi Melissa,

Sorry for my late reply. I've asked my host to take a look at this. He will, but it will take some time, as these are the summer holidays.

I will keep you updated as soon as I know something!

Hi Melissa,

I just got an answer from my host. He said the following;

Port 443 for https is open, as usual. Is also as default configurated in CSF. So, if there are problems, this will be due to a different cause than ssl. Probably the domain in question is blocked, or this server is blocked on the other side. Please let me know to which url they are trying to connect?

What can be done?

Best regards, Judith

The URL JFBConnect is trying to connect to is 'www.linkedin.com'. The specific error being returned by PHP can be seen in the image Melissa posted above:

Failed to connect to www.linkedin.com port 443: Connection timed out

I doubt your server has been blocked by LinkedIn, though it's possible if it's on a shared IP and there's another site that has been very abusive toward their servers. That's unlikely though.

I'd recommend contacting the host again to verify PHP's cURL extension is able to make outgoing secure requests to linkedin.com. That's another layer beyond the server itself, and could be blocked on its own.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Mu host answered your question yesterday. He said:

We support the CurlSSL and not the regular Curl. Could that be the problem?

cURL-SSL is pretty much the standard and actually what JFBConnect requires. Without the SSL portion, cURL can't make requests securely to each social network.. and that's something that the authentication process needs.

Can you Private Message FTP credentials from your site to us? If we can go in to make some code changes, we should be able to narrow down where the issue is pretty quickly. To PM me, please use the mail icon under my name to the left.

Thanks,
Alex
