Hi

Two days ago when I set up JFBConnect, the social comment box (Facebook commenting) under my articles had moderator tools built into it when I logged into the site as Admin. Now when I log in, there are no moderator tools in the comment boxes. Is there I setting for this that I might inadvertently have changed?

Thank you!

No, probably not. The moderator tools will show when you are logged into Facebook.com with the administrator account for the Facebook Application you're using on your site. It actually doesn't matter at all if you're logged into your site as a Joomla administrator.

Please check if you're logged into Facebook.com correctly and my guess is that the moderator tools will show properly.

I hope that helps, but if you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Yes, I was logged into the appropriate Facebook account.

Strangely, after looking through a couple of dozen K2 articles, I noticed that some of them have a comment box with moderator and settings views, and some just have a standard comment box - it's quite random, not confined to a specific category or anything. A few days ago the moderator and settings views showed under all the articles (including all the reviews and news items in ZOO).

It could just be a temporary glitch with the Facebook server, but I shall review all my K2 and JFBConnect settings tomorrow, just in case

One thing to test is running a page where the moderator tools aren't showing through the Facebook Debug Tool . That should re-fetch the page and re-scan the tags we set in the page.

If there are no errors (warnings are usually ok), try reloading the page. That may be all it takes to jolt Facebook. They automatically re-scan pages every few days, so you won't need to do that on all pages. It will be a good test though to see if the glitch should be fixed with a few days of waiting on all pages.

All the best,
Alex

Thanks for that, it did work on the page I tested it on.

I suppose the main problem with testing each page like that is that whilst the site has only a few general pages, the website has (literally) thousands of K2 and ZOO articles (i.e. pages where the social commenting box appears)! It's a music related website, with several thousand CD reviews, a couple of thousand interviews, plus uncountable articles and reviews in the archive, dating back to 2002.

And Facebook will slowly crawl each of those pages. Until one of those pages is loaded and Facebook detects that a Comment box (or other social sharing features) are on it, it won't be added to their queue to scan. Once it's in their queue, it will get scanned over the next few days and that page will then be associated with your Application.. that Application is associated with your Facebook account.. and when you visit, they'll know that you're a moderator.

So, really, just wait. If someone spams a specific page and you need to moderate it, run it through the debugger to get it bumped in the queue for scanning so you can moderate right then. Otherwise, you don't need the moderator tools...

Hope that helps,
Alex

That's more or less what I thought would happen, which is why I thought I'd wait a couple of days if it wasn't just a general settings issue.

On a vaguely related topic (regards a comment in your last post about spam), one of the reasons I went with social network log in and commenting rather than built-in commenting (Joomla, K2, ZOO) is that, with few exceptions, someone with an established Facebook account is less likely to spam comments - let's be honest, it's a bit of a pain to create a new Facebook page just so you can spam a website comments section!

I tested a few cloud authentication and social network extensions when I upgraded to J3.x, and JFBConnect easily outshines all the others for features, ease of use, etc. And, as I am finding out, the support is absolutely fantastic. If someone doesn't offer the same level of support that I offer my own clients, I'd be reluctant to use their products again :)

Spam is definitely very uncommon with Facebook comments, but it does happen. The nice thing is that if a spammer goes to 100 sites and 20 of them mark it as spam, the comment they left on your site will likely be automatically removed as well. That's the nice thing of distributed spam detection.

Beyond that, the moderation tools let you 'promote' a post to the top and some other features like that, but in general, we never need to use the moderation features.

As for our support, thanks for the compliments. This is our full time jobs and we obviously take it seriously. Listening to our users is the best feedback possible for improving our extensions by making them easier to user and adding desired features.

As always, if you have any feedback, please let us know!

Thanks,
Alex
