What my perfect world looks like: if on an article page, use the article image in og:image

Everywhere else, use a default image

If I set image as a default in the config, it is used on every page without fail, even on article pages with an article image.

Is my perfect world possible?

The perfect world is how things should be working. JFBConnect should add images to the page in the following order:
* Any images you've specifically set using the {SCOpenGraph image=full_link_to_image}
* Any images added with the Open Graph plugins
* Finally, the default image
Facebook will use the images in the order they are set, so the article image should come first.

Can you make sure that the Open Graph - Content plugin is enabled? That's where the image is detected in your content and set, and will be done in priority to the default, fallback image.

If you're still seeing the wrong ordering, please post (or Private Message) me the URL of a page where the order is incorrect and let me know what image you've set as the default.

Thanks,
Alex

Got it - looks like the other components I'm using aren't setting og:image consistently.

When I put my site's default image in the {} tags on the home page, it works properly and then I'll let all other pages do their own thing. That should work fine, and I'll bug the other component developers, as they claim they set og:image.

Riddle me this - does your plugin need to be last to detect other plugins that might set og:image?

We don't detect other og:image tags. We do search (and remove) a lot of other og: tags to make sure there are duplicates because having multiple of some tags is a problem. If there are multiple og:image tags though, that's ok (in Facebook's eyes) as they can all be used.

We'd recommend using the JFBCSystem plugin *first* in the ordering as it *may* get our og:image tags higher up in the head section, so they are used first, but no guarantees on that.

I hope that helps answer your question, but if you need anything else, or have any feedback or suggestions for improvement, just let me know.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:
