I have set up channels for pages I admin and groups I can post to, but I cannot seem to make a channel for my personal page. My main, Facebook timeline associated with my email that I use to authenticate.

Is this a known deficiency?

Is this a permissions issue? I had to add a permission request in the additional permissions for pages and groups, but neither cause my personal page to be listed in available pages when creating a channel.

Am I missing the obvious?

Right now, the Channels features only support Facebook Groups and Pages, Twitter Streams and LinkedIn Company Profiles. We'll be adding more channel types, like personal Facebook Timelines, in future releases later this year.

I hope that helps answer your question, and sorry we don't have the specific feature you're looking for yet. Personal timeline posts are definitely coming though. Early this year, there was a huge demand for posting to Pages and Groups, so we prioritized that, and didn't realize how much users would want to post to personal timelines as well, since it wasn't requested at the time.

Thanks,
Alex

Sounds good - consider this a vote for it ;)

I am setting up a site for my personal writings (bit.parts) and integrating with my personal Facebook is definitely part of maintaining the social brand. I don't want to have to ask my "followers" to go follow a page as well.

I definitely understand your interest in a personal profile Channel. Just a quick note though, Facebook recommends using Pages for broad audiences, like it sounds like you're looking for. Users can "Follow" personal profiles, but posts from Facebook Pages generally get a broader reach and there's additional analytics tools for seeing how your posts go.

So, if you plan to ever really, really grow, it's best to make the plunge with a Facebook Page sooner than later.

Finally, a quick question about what you're looking for.. are you trying to display your Profile feed on your site or do you want to use the Channel to push content from your site to your Timeline? Just curious as it helps drive our roadmap the more we hear from our users on exactly what they're looking for.

Thanks,
Alex

So with all due respect, I couldn't disagree more ;)

Facebook edge score on my personal page is multiples of the highest possible edge score on a page. The best reach metric I've been able to achieve has been 26% on the Rocky Horror page I manage (32,000 fans) and it's typically around 10% to 12%.

My personal page, on the other hand, regularly gets upwards of 60% reach, especially when I get a quick group of likes and comments.

I'm paid to consult on Facebook, by the way ;)

For a personal blog and building a personal brand, which this is, a personal page is unquestionably the better option. In this case, I'm looking to READ my personal timeline and import it to my Joomla front page in a module along with the Twitter feed.

Christopher,
I can't argue with what you say at all. I really just spout the Facebook party line on what should be used. I haven't done any analytics on that or any sort of consulting for Facebook, or social network in general, promo. It's great to hear your feedback, honestly. It makes sense actually about personal people getting followed having more relevance to a user, and therefore showing up in their Timeline more.

Anyways, we'll definitely be looking more into the Facebook Personal Profile integration for showing in streams. It's definitely planned and, honestly, shouldn't be that difficult.

On a completely unrelated note, do you do much email marketing or notifications from your site? We have plans for an upcoming extension that should improve email within Joomla in multiple areas. If you do anything with email for site promotion or general user interaction/engagement and would like more info, I'd love to hear from you. Your feedback in the past on JFBConnect has been extremely helpful, so you were already on our contact list for later this year :)

Thanks,
Alex

No email marketing at all.

These days, it's a terrible return. People expect to get notifications pushed to them by Facebook, really, and even though Facebook is going to attenuate your message down to sub-20%, most people don't know or care. Yeah, it sucks. It really sucks.

Now that's for the markets where I play. Things might be different in other markets where, for example, your email list is people who've already established a customer relationship (like me with respect to your software). That's very different, and I don't play there.

My market is communities and brand evangelism.

Thanks for the feedback. For our email extension, it's not email blasts/newsletters that we're looking at.. more automated emails from the site notifying the user of new content (blog post, new messages, comments, blog posts, whatever is generated on your site). It's mainly an automated engagement method, similar to push notifications from Facebook, but from activity configured from your site.

We're shooting to have something available in October if all goes well. If interested in more info, let me know. If not, I completely understand if it's not up your alley :)
