Open Graph was created by aquamarina
Hi,
Just wanting something really simple: to be able to add a link from the webpage to Facebook and then see the title, description and image.
I understand that you only need to enable the Open Graph plugin in Joomla and it should work.
I can see in the html code view that the meta property=og (title, description and image etc) are set on the page.
But when trying to add a link to a post only the link is showing.
Any idea what's wrong here?
the website is http:bataviahaven.nu and I'm working with Joomla 3.2.3.

Appreciate any help asap, thank you, Marina

Facebook caches information about your page. When you just add new tags, it can take a few days for Facebook to detect and start using them.

To speed things up, you can run your page through the Facebook URL Debug Tool . That will 'test' the page and let you know what Facebook sees. It will also instantly update their cache, so you should be able to see the tags immediately if you re-Like your page.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex

Alex,
Thank you for your answer.
I have tried the Object debugger.
It can see the URL and Canonical URL
But I get an message Mistake: can't get information from URL
Scraped URL shows a blank page.
Can't find anywhere on Google what that means.
Hope you can help me?
Thank you again, Marina

Can you go to the Joomla Global Configuration area and turn off GZip Compression? There are some issues in certain server configurations where the GZip compression seems to be interfering with Facebook downloading the page. We're unsure what the issue is, but we'd love to hear your feedback if you can run the debug tool after you disable that setting.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Dear Alex,

Sorry to get back to you so late.
And yes, it has to do with the gzip in Joomla. Ones I turned it off it work well.
Hope that this will be solved with a newer version of Joomla.
Thank you for your answer.

Thanks for the report on what worked for you. We're trying to look into this issue, but really haven't found the culprit yet. If we can fix it in JFBConnect, we will, or if we find a fix for Joomla, we'd definitely contribute it back there as well.

Thanks and good luck,
Alex

Dear Alex,

Another question related to Open Graph:
As you know the Gzip compression in Joomla did not work. The provider Byte has a possibility to add Gzip compression in their service panel on the server.
This seems to work, so that is ok.
But what I see is that when I want to Share an article with JFBConnect (deeper in the website) it does not show the information unless I pass it through the Open Graph Object Debugger first.
so for example if I go to the page bataviahaven.nu/nl/de-omgeving/uitstapjes/bataviawerf and I want to share this I only see the url.
But if I checked the Debugger and then try again then it shows the information. Any idea why?
And do we need to check every new article made in Joomla in the debugger/

Appreciate your help or suggestions,
Have a nice weekend!

Server level GZip is the better option all around since it's 'built-in' and doesn't make Joomla do any additional work.. so I'd stick with that.

As for the Open Graph tags themselves, when you initially set them, it can take Facebook a little time (few hours or days) to scan that page. You can use the Facebook Debug Tool or something like Social Debug, both of which will update Facebook's cache immediately. Social Debug is a sister site of ours that also helps show you want your posts will look like and give you some recommendations for your social meta tags.

I hope that helps explain, but if you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex
