Topic-icon User Profile Fields Showing, Captcha Fields Arent.

Hi - this may be a silly question - I have forgotten much of the detail about the program, and am testing a migration on a development site.

(Its worked so well for the last few years I have just let it do its business - and now I don't now how to use it properly it seems. I do seem to have the same problem on the original site however).

www.assetfinanceawards.com/ using community builder.

Normal registration works (click on register button) - and you get required fields and a captcha. I think this is the standard CB registration page. All works.
If however you click on Login, and then on FB button, you get the split screen LHS: login RHS register.

LHS works fine - I can use the login and join the fb to the login account.
RHS however has two problems - first that there is no CAPTCHA. Field name appears, but no captcha. Also I seem to get a User Profile fields including favourite book and date of birth, which my fleet leasing customers might find odd... (lol)

What I want is RHS to disappear the profile fields. Oh and for the registration people to be able to see the captcha you can see when you click on the register button.

My settings are:

1) Enable Auto Registration - NO
2) Auto LINK -YES
3) Skip Joomla Activation - YES
4) Show Profile Fields - Required only (trust me I never asked them about their favourite book)
5) Show imported fields - NO

If you need to play on the site, feel free (its a development site). I will email username and password (since its late here, and I really should be off to bed!).

Postscript - it would appear to be the same on the actual site. I think I never noticed the extra fields because I assumed people would click the register button to register. The captcha I added when those annoying computer generated registrations needed to get blocked. I would like it to work though, and have also noticed on the live site a number of people registering but not confirming, and I am guessing there is a small line of people who click on login when they want to register, move through the process you have in place to capture them, and then stop when they hit the barrier of the captcha (or perhaps they can't work out which is their favourite book ;) ).

Edward,
I haven't checked the admin area.. I can do that tomorrow if the below doesn't help get you going first. Hopefully, these quick answers will be all you need though:

1) Favorite book :D - Hehe.. this is likely coming from the User - Profile plugin. That's a plugin that comes with Joomla and it disabled by default. When enabled, it adds some fields to your registration flow.. though usually more than you mention, so that's strange. Either way, I'd recommend disabling it if those are fields that a) you don't want and b) aren't being configured in CB, which is a more powerful profile component anyways.

2) Spam registrations are a part of life, unfortunately. Captchas are easily circumvented (either because it's real people or even through automated means). With that said:
a) Social registrations are much more unlikely to be spammy. To register using JFBConnect through a social network, the user *must* have authenticated through that social network. There's no way to bypass that, which means the user has already gone through all the FB, Twitter, Linked, etc checks and hasn't been disabled by those social networks for being a spammer. JFBConnect won't let you get to that Register page if you haven't clicked a social login button for your protection (we don't want to be the easy-access back door for spammers).
b) Instead of captcha, in general, I'd recommend using something like SpamBotCheck . That automatically checks the user's IP/email against online crowd-sourced databases to see if they are likely a spammer. We use it on this site and don't use captcha. We have well over 500 (probably over 1000 now) crap registrations per day. A few still can get through, but less than I can count on a hand.. and it's an easier registration process for the 'real' people.

I hope that helps. If not, let me know and tomorrow I can gladly poke around on your site.

Alex

Awesome! Glad to hear that helped you narrow things down. As always, should you need anything else, just let me know.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:

Thanks,
Alex
