Just installed v6.0 (updating previous v5.x on Joomla 3.x) and was trying to post to a FB page with the Channels function. I am receiving an error in the Joomla Admin area in the JFBConnect Social Channels section. For the Provider, I have Facebook selected. For the Type, I have Page selected. I have added myself as the Channel Owner. When I try to select a Page in the Facebook Page drop down menu, there is no page to select. I do have a page on FB but it doesn't show in the drop down. At the top of the screen, I get this warning: "The selected user has not granted the 'manage_pages' permission. Please have them login on the front-end of the site and accept the correct permission."

When I go to the front end of the site and log in, I see no option to accept permissions. I do see the box at bottom left with the options to see Meta Tags and Create Post. When I try to create a post, it will say that the item posted to the Facebook page, but the post does not show up on the FB page.

By the way, I have set up a Channel for Twitter as well. I do NOT get the above warning when setting up the Twitter channel, but when I attempt to post to Twitter, I get the message that the post was successful, but again, as with the FB channel, nothing gets posted to Twitter.

Please advise.
Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion and trouble you're having. Our Channel documentation is admittedly very light. We'll be adding much more information, and hopefully a video demonstration, later this week.

For the message you're seeing, please login using Facebook with the user account that you selected from the Channel manager. If you are already logged ino n the front-end, you'll need to logout and then log back in using Facebook. Once you do so, you should have an additional prompt to grant the required permission.

The same issue goes for Twitter. After you configure the channel and select a user, that user will need to authenticate on the front-end using Twitter. There will be two authentication prompts for that user and they must accept both.

The other thing you noted that the channel says it succesfully posted sounds like a bug. We'll definitely look into that to show the proper message. There are a few things with Channels that will be improved over the next few releases.

I hope that helps explain, but should you need anything else or can't get the permission request to work, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex, and thank you for the prompt reply!
Yes, logging in with my Twitter and FB accounts did the job. All is working properly. I had to modify my Twitter app's permissions, but that was easy to figure out.
Thanks again!

Awesome! Very glad to hear you got that going, and sorry for the confusion. As noted, we're working on the updated documentation now. Of course, if you have any feedback on the process or social posting feature in general, we'd love to hear it. We're always looking to add more great features, while making them as easy to use as possible.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:

Alex,
Only suggestion I can think of at this point is a character count when selecting Twitter as a channel, so I can know when I've hit my character limit. Other than that, it seems to be working perfectly. Review has been submitted. Glad to spread the word. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, the character counter is definitely coming in the next big release. As we're using the social posting feature, we're realizing how much we want it as well :)

Thanks for the feedback and review. We really appreciate it! Should you need anything else, just let us know!

Thanks,
Alex
