We actually just had a similar question the other day. My answer there will hopefully help you as well in determining whether you really even want an SSL certificate for your site:

In general, the overwhelming majority of features for JFBConnect do not require an SSL certificate on your site.. but having an SSL cert in general isn't a bad thing (user's like security) and it does enable a few extra frills you may want.
