JFBConnect bug ? was created by andjan
Hi Sourcecoast,

I am just a simple newsportal site manager and recently installed JFBC.
I was thinking that this component would do it all for me (?) No worries anymore.

However, It is not that easy to configure as explained in the pre-sales docs.

I don't understand how to make sure the first image in an article is also shown when somebody is sharing/liking an article of the site on Facebook. Now there are many times the wrong images are shown.
Secondly, There is no send button visible, neither the Google+ button.
Am I that stupid, am I missing something there ? Do I have to install more modules or plugins ?

Live site is www.tanka.be

André,
There are a lot of configuration options in JFBConnect, and we're looking at revamping our configuration guide to be more "How to do 'x'" oriented, so that it's easier to find what you're looking for instead of having to wade through a lot.

Until then though, hopefully I can help with what you're looking for. If your articles are all Joomla-based Content articles, then install the Open Graph - Content plugin that came with JFBConnect. Once enabled, it will automatically set the Open Graph image for each page based on the first image found in your article. If you ever want to 'see what Facebook sees', run a page of your site through the Facebook Debug Tool . That tool can help diagnose issues quickly.

That's likely the first step to get things going how you want, but if you have issues or need more clarification, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex,

There are some specific problems that I am running into.
One of them is the fact that I am running a news website for our city here in Belgium. Yesterday for exemple a young man died and I really want to give FB users the opportunity to share this news to their friends.
I am all the time getting Phone calls that it is not appropriate that people can LIKE this news. I have checked the RECOMMEND button but this only appears on the article view, not on the FrontPage. Is there any way that I can put only this category with the RECOMMEND button , also on the Frontview ?

Second major item is the first image, sorry about this. I have been reading all kind of posts but I am still getting the wrong banner pictures of the advertisement instead of the first picture of the article. I ran the Facebook Tool aready and it gives some errors ..... but i don't know how to fix these ;<(
Third problem is that a part of the box opening when I like something, there is Always a part that is not showing. I am using the Rocket Theme Lumiere.

Maybe you can help me with these 3 questions, the rest will follow. I do not understand where to put all this Open Graph code.

Kind regards
André

André,
For the home page image, there's a few options. The best thing we'd recommend is going to the Open Graph -> Configuration area of JFBConnect. In the big "Defaults" box, add the following line:
image=http://yoursite.com/link-to-image.jpg
Whatever image you set there will be used on all pages as the image if no other image is set. That's a great place for a logo or other generic image that can work on your pages.

On your actual article pages, it looks like you have things set with our Open Graph plugins. For instance, on the page below, the image is properly set from the article automatically:
www.tanka.be/index.php/sport/wielersport...n-begint-morgen-weer

Like vs Recommend
Unfortunately, we don't have a way to set "Recommend" on certain blog views or the front-page and not others. In the Social configuration of JFBConnect, you can set the "Verb to Display:" option to "Recommend" for blog views, and that will set it for the front-page as well.

If you really don't want the Like button for just one article, you can use the "Exclude Article Ids" box in the Social configuration area to exclude that specific article from getting the Like buttons. Then, in the article text, you can add the following tag:
{JFBCLike href=http://site.com/link-to-article layout=standard action=recommend}

With that, you'll be hiding the normal Like button and then adding the Recommend button manually.

Hope that helps explain,
Alex
