You should be able to test from any domain you want. Only you know if it's a staging or dev site.

With that said, I'm assuming you're trying to test authentication with Facebook or another social network. In that case, you'll need to make sure that you have updated the Application for that social network to accept requests for whatever domain you're using. Most social network apps have a "Whitelist" and/or "Callback URL" that you'd need to add your dev domain too as well.
