Hello,
with google+ shutting down I wonder if it's a good idea to delete all the google user mappings (in "user map" config section) ?
Or should I just leave them there?
Or maybe I didin't understand at all and google+ shutting down won't affect the ability for users to login and register through their google account?

Thanks

JFBConnect v8.0 updated our Google integration to use their newer APIs. When you login with the "Google+" button, you're actually logging in with any of the Google services that support their single-sign on mechanism.. so user's with a Gmail, YouTube or a few other accounts can actaully authenticate on your site. It's not just Google+.

We do need update the logo, documentation and promote our Google integration a bit better. However, I'll be honest that there may very likely be some hiccups as Google+ is shut down. We've been working to make the migration as smooth as possible, but Google isn't being exceptionally clear on what may happen either :)

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
I received this warning (nimb.ws/U8BCaH) from Google about the use of their API
Can you tell me if I need to do anything in order or the JFBconnect sign-in to continue to work with google?

Thanks

==============

What do I need to know?

On March 7, 2019, all Google+ APIs and Google+ Sign-in will be shut down completely. This will be a progressive shutdown beginning in late January, with calls to these APIs starting to intermittently fail as early as January 28, 2019.

What do I need to do?

Please update your projects listed below by March 7, 2019 and ensure they are no longer using Google+ APIs. The data below shows which Google+ API methods your projects have recently called.

Note: If you see calls to people.get, these can be the result of using the Google+ Sign-In feature in your application, which is now fully deprecated and is being shut down. Developers should migrate from the Google+ Sign-In feature to the more comprehensive Google Sign-in authentication system.

We've already done most of the work in 2018 with version 8.0.0 and later to get ready for this. The remaining items that we'll be updating in JFBConnect are:

* Remove the authentication scope request to www.googleapis.com/auth/plus.me (which is what that call you're seeing above is coming from)
* Remove the social widgets which will no longer work.

We're planning on putting out a quick release with these changes in early January. Let us know if you have any other concerns or questions.

Thanks

Hi Alex & Melissa,

Sorry to bump the original forum post, but I have the same question - Google shutting down Google+ API and telling me to update my projects - and I'm not really sure if there's anything I should do.

Should I get a new API-key? Should I recongifure something with Google?
I'm totally in the dark here.
Could you guys enlighten me?

Thanks!

As Melissa noted, we're working on an update and some documentation on what to do with your apps. It pretty much should be 'not much' though as JFBConnect already has most of the updates required implemented, but installing another update later this month will help ensure you have no issues.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Just wanted to point out that we put out a new release of JFBConnect last week which removed the old Google+ API/widget calls. Please update and let us know if you continue to have any issues/warnings about the shutdown and your application calls.
