* In the JFBConnect backend > Channels area, please open up the channel for autoposting and let me know the values for 'Autopost Plugins' and 'Autopost Objects'.
* Which Open Graph plugins do you have enabled?
* If you have objects selected, please go into JFBConnect backend > Social Meta > Objects area and check that the selected object is published and the Category and Descriptions are still set correctly.

This should help us start to figure out the problem.

- I had two FB groups in the Social Channels but they were both set to not allow posting and neither autopost plugins nor objects were enabled .. history showed that the last autpost happened in 2016 .. disabled them now but can't see any change from it, using the debugger

- as an object I have a music.playlist for one of my joomla categories. meta is set as description type (btw. the wrong description happens for every category on my site)

- I have content, custom object and jomsocial open graph enabled.

Can you try disabling the Custom Object and JomSocial open graph plugins as a test. Then, use the Facebook URL debug tool to rescan your page. Make sure you use the "Scrape Again" button so that it fetches the page again. Let us know if that fixes things.

Either way, let us know a URL that is having issues as well as the description you'd expect and we can help investigate further.

Thanks,
Alex

the debug tool scrapes the correct description once I disable all the Open Graph - Content plugin.
It gets the correct image and description, but now I get two errors on the debug page:

Inferred Property
The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

Missing Properties
The following required properties are missing: go:image

example:
www.deepershades.net/442

If I go to that page, it brings me to www.deepershades.net/dsoh-shows/dsoh-442...y-culoe-de-song.html which has no og:image tag on the page, hence the error. Alex only mentioned disabling the Custom and JomSocial open graph plugins, not the Open Graph - content plugin. If this is a normal Joomla article, please enable the 'Open Graph - Content' plugin again. When enabled, JFBConnect can attempt to pick an image to set for the og:image tag. Without the plugin, you'd have to manually insert the SCOpenGraph easy-tag to get an image tag added or set a default image in the JFBConnect backend > Social Meta > Defaults area.

understood ..
my point is that unless I disable the open graph - content plugin, the description is not pulled from the meta description but only taken from the first words in the full text!

I see. You can re-enable the 'Open Graph - Content' plugin and then create an object in the JFBConnect > Social Meta > Objects area for articles. In the object, you can specify that the description is taken from the meta description instead of article text. If you've previously just enabled the plugin, but had not created an object, then JFBConnect tries to use the article text by default.

now we're just going in circles .
that's what I had before and it worked until I updated my joomla and components to the latest versions

When I enable the content - open graph plugin in gets the image, but still uses the first words in the article for the FB share rather than the meta description (which the FB debugger pulls when the plugin is disabled)
I also just created a new custom object but still no difference ..

Not intending to make you go in circles :)

The Open Graph - Content plugin is what is inserting the open graph image tag and making that work. However, the default of the Open Graph - Content plugin is to set the og:description tag to the first words of the article. Knowing that disabling it changes the behavior helps us understand things quite a bit.

I know you mentioned you created a new Custom Object. I think that's the way to go. You'll want to create a new Content - Article object and set it to the "Root" category. In the settings side, set the description to come from the Meta Description. That should do what you're looking for and apply it to all articles on your site. Test though and let us know how that goes.

Alex
