Topic-icon Can't get like/share buttons to display on articles

Hello,

I have configured JFBConnect with 4 APIs (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn), I've run autotune, I can't see any configuration issues, but only Google+ and Twitter (which shows the word 'Tweet', not an icon) show at the end of Joomla articles.

I cannot see how to make LinkedIn and Facebook show as the configuration seems all the same, and how do I make Twitter show an icon not the word 'Tweet'?

Could you describe how you are attempting to add the buttons to the page? Could you also provide a specific URL so that I can inspect the elements on the page? Are there any errors on the Javascript console for the browser?

Hi Melissa,

I have sent you site details separately, I cannot find anything wrong, I really don't now what to do next?

I just have the setting in the configuration on to show share on page articles. 2 appeared (as described) but the other 2 don't appear. Facebook also has another issue as per my other ticket.

Thanks

Thanks for the credentials.. I just looked at your site and the social buttons are showing just fine for me.

If you're using a browser add-on to block advertisements, tracking or in other ways make you 'hidden' that's likely why you can't see the social buttons. Please try in other browsers or disable add-ons in the one you're using (or both).

I hope that helps,
Melissa

Hi,

I can see them on Chrome, but this is no different on Firefox, I still get the same result?

Also, how do you make the buttons just be icons like in the login module?

As Melissa mentioned, the reason you can't see them in Firefox is likely due to a browser setting that's preventing tracking or other social networking features from working. Can you tell me if the social buttons at the bottom of this page are working properly?

As for the buttons themselves, you can control the type that is displayed in the JFBConnect -> Social configuration area in the Joomla admin area.

I hope that helps,
Alex

One possibility for Firefox is to check your Tracking Protection setting, which may be blocking social networking features.

I hope that helps,

I have the same problem. In Firefox with tracking on facebook does not show but google does eg at the bottom of this page. If I disable tracking then facebook appears. So question is why does google button display with tracking on and facebook does not ?

If I go to a competitor site www.animalfriends.co.uk/blog/becool-rainy-days/ the buttons on this site display with Firefox tracking on so this implies its an issue with jfbconnect.

Also with tracking off the linkedin share and pintrest buttons do not display. All others are ok.

Thanks
Paul

The buttons on the page you refer to use the Share command from Facebook, not the Like. Share pops up a new window and the user is able to control the post to their account. Like uses details about the user being logged in already to Facebook, which is considered 'tracking', and why Firefox blocks it.

As for Google or other social networks, Firefox determines what it considers to be 'tracking'. There's little we can do about this because the browser is configured to stop this type of behavior. To circumvent it is impossible because the browser is what's loading the page and disabling features as it sees necessary.

We are considering some alternative button types, that use popups for confirmation that the user wants to Like a page and whatnot, but those are more cumbersome. They also add extra steps while users are in other browsers, which may decrease user engagement as well.

I hope that helps explain more, but if there's anything else we can help with, please let us know.

Thanks,
Alex
