Hi,

I am trying to figure out what is the easiest and best way to set Open Graph info for articles and Categories so to best display when links are shared via Social Media, etc.

We would like to fine tune or set specific image and text for specific pages. Or set it up globally in JFBC so that when we create a new category or article that the link OpenGraph info would be unique to the link that is shared. Of course it could use the site default info for any that has not been individually fine tuned or set yet.

Currently I get this message on a number of pages when debugging with Facebook tool:
Inferred Property
The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

I also see the same image for various pages when sharing a links in WhatsApp.

Any help on getting the most out of this would be awesome.

Thanks,

Andrew

There are several different ways to set the Open Graph tags on your page with JFBConnect:

1. Using our Open Graph plugins for supported extensions. If you're using Joomla articles, enable the 'Open Graph - Content' plugin and then JFBConnect can automatically attempt to determine description and images for articles and categories by grabbing the data out of your content.
2. If you'd like further control over the content that's used for the desc/image, instead of what the plugin uses, you can create an object for your articles and categories in the JFBConnect backend > Social Meta > Objects area. You can then choose which image (first one in the article, category image, etc) and other details like how long the descriptions will be, where they're grabbed from, etc.
3. If you really want to get into it you can use the SCOpenGraph easy-tags anywhere in your content. You'd insert it like the following:
{SCOpenGraph image=FULL/PATH/TO/IMAGE.png}
{SCOpenGraph description=Your description here}
4. The site-wide defaults as you've mentioned.

I'd also suggest reading our documentation for more detail.

Please remember after any changes you make to the tags on your page will require it to be re-scraped for the new tag values to show in your shares/previews. You can visit the documentation link for a quick description on how to do that.

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for the info.

1) I have plugins enabled.
2) I have configured some of those 'Objects'
3) Would prefer not to do this as yet.

Now, could you possibly help us by taking a look at our configuration on our site? Could I send you further details by message?

Thanks

After 1 and 2 are you having problems with the tags being set correctly?

If so, I'd also need a specific URL on the front-end of an article and/or category that has the problem. Any other details on what you've set and what's going wrong would help too. You can PM me credentials

Mel, I have activated the plugin for open graph. autotune says all is setup right. I have rescraped using the developer page. but no image isbeing pulled.

USER wrote: Meta with name instead of property The meta tag on the page was specified with name 'author', which matches a configured property of this object type. It will be ignored unless specified with the meta property attribute instead of the meta name attribute.

og:image could not be downloaded or is too small og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that's at least 200x200px and is accessible from Faceboo... See More

There are two og:image tags on the page, but the Facebook debug tool currently has two warnings stating that those images exceed the maximum size allowed, so they will not be used:

Image Unavailable
Provided og:image, www.selfservicespa.com/images/massage_chair_fb1.jpg could not be downloaded because it exceeded the maximum allowed sized of 8Mb or your server was too slow to respond.

Image Unavailable
Provided og:image, www.selfservicespa.com/images/15minprice.png could not be downloaded because it exceeded the maximum allowed sized of 8Mb or your server was too slow to respond.

I'd address the size and then re-scrape again.

the image is 109kb and my server is siteground.com which a premier server particulary for joomla.

Can we troubleshoot another option? For example today i activated security on this domain. Is there perhaps an issue with https for images with respect to the og: and facebook?

Can you go into JFBConnect > Social Meta > Configuration and verify that your 'Image Size Tags' option is enabled?
