Topic-icon Facebook warning: Prohibited Redirects from Your App

Hi,
I've received the following alert from Facebook.

Your app 'app name and ID' appears to be redirecting off of Facebook in violation of the Facebook Platform Policies. Specifically, FPP 4.8 states:
Don’t build an app whose primary purpose is to redirect people off of Facebook.
Please address this issue as soon as possible in order to avoid enforcement. We appreciate your commitment to creating a positive experience for users.

I'm using Joomla 3.6.5 and JFBConnect 7.2 set up as described in your documentation.
JFBConnect is mainly used on my site to allow users to login using Facebook/Gmail.

Any idea how I can address this issue, please?

Regards,
Franck

Franck,
The only time I've heard of that policy is if you are using the Facebook Page Tab or Facebook Canvas area and on those pages, you are forcing the user out of Facebook and to your site.

Are you doing anything like that, or is JFBConnect only being used for on-site social login using Facebook?

I hope that helps give some ideas/pointers, but if you have more details, please let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the reply.
I use JFBConnect only for on-site social login using Facebook so no idea what it's all about unless Facebook has changed its policies.

Honestly then, that doesn't make any sense to me. The on-site social login doesn't have restrictions (that I'm aware of) about redirecting the users away from Facebook. They're already on your site.. there's nothing to redirect them away from at that point. Facebook is just providing the convenience of not having to re-authenticate.

There's 2 options here, and I don't have a great suggestion on which to choose:
a) ignore the problem. Facebook may ignore you as well (or at should at least give another warning before taking any action)
b) Respond to them for more information. This could be very helpful, but it may not be responded to or help in any way.

Sorry I don't have much better suggestions for you. I'm very confused by that message as I haven't heard of it at all before. Only Facebook could clarify further.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
I'll go for option 1 for now as there are no easy ways to contact them. We'll see how it goes.
Worse scenario, I can create a new app ID.

Thanks for your help.

A new app ID can be a pain because Facebook creates unique user IDs for visitors based on your App ID. That means that if you change the ID, the users that come back and login to for your site will have to re-approve your app. JFBConnect should be able to automatically relink them to their existing accounts though if their email doesn't change though.

Not a huge problem, but causes a little more frustration.

My guess though is that Facebook either made an error or if you aren't doing anything real sinister on your site, will never get in touch again. If you get a warning though, get in touch.. I'd like to hear more.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,
Facebook has restricted my app, when I appealed they sent me the following reply:

You have claimed on your application that is it is fully integrated onto the canvas platform. But, we found that users were being redirected off of the canvas integration hence there was a restriction set in place. We are asking that either your app be fully integrated within canvas or you remove the canvas integration completely.

I don't know what the connection between JFBConnect and Facebook canvas but in my case I use it for login only.
Does this reply make sense to you? How can it be fixed?

Franck

Strange. Your Canvas page on Facebook would likely be at the URL below:
https://apps.facebook.com/fomesoutra-com

You may want to go to the Facebook Developers area , go into your app -> settings area and remove 'Facebook Web Games' as one of your supported platforms. Remove it by clicking the 'x' in the top right area of that section. Then save and respond back to Facebook that you've removed that integration.

That's the best guess I have, but please let us know anything else that happens.

Thanks,
Alex
