Hi there,

Im trying to get this to work but having followed the tiny amount of documentation there is about it, I still see nothing.

Im assuming thats because it should just work if I follow the documentation which as far as I can tell is as follows:

========================================================
The JFBCSocialShare module will show the sharing buttons for the current page, letting the user share pages from your site back to their social network. These share buttons includes Facebook Like / Share, Twitter Tweet, LinkedIn Share, and Google +1. The module can be in a fixed or floated position. You can see an example of the JFBCSocialShare module on sourcecoast.com floated to the bottom of the page.

The example parameters to get started like on sourcecoast.com:

Basic Options:

Layout: Button Count
Orientation: Horizontal
Position: Float
Margin: 5px
Padding: 5px 0 0 5px
Background: #fff
Float from Top: 3000 (this puts it at the bottom right of the screen)
Float from Left: 3000 (this puts it on the right side)
Facebook Options:

Show Like: Yes
Width: 85
Height: 20
==============================

So Ive followed that and still nothing. Its enabled and yet I see noting.

Any ideas,

Paula

Could you give me the specific URL that you've added the module to that you're not seeing it for? If I go to www.wheeconomics.com/caveat-venditor/caveat-venditor-2 then I can see it floating towards the bottom of the page. If it's showing on some but not others, I would double-check that you've set the "Menu Assignment" to be all pages.

Ah yes that was me messing about with it for a while. I put it in a sidebar and whilst it did show up, it messed up everything else.

I currently have it in a position called float.

What is the recommended position.

I apologise if this is written down somewhere in some docs but I just couldn't find it.

Paula,
It's not written down anywhere because there isn't any one answer. Each website and template is different, so we can't specify which module positions will work best for yours, or any site.

As for the module itself, it needs to be configured to display in a real module position that would show on your page. *Most* (but not all) templates have a debug, footer or other out of the way module position that the JFBCSocialShare can be placed into. That's where some HTML will render because Joomla has to put something in a module position, but then we use some Javascript to 'pop' the share buttons out and make them float.

The big thing here is that if you switch the Position: Float to Position: Fixed parameter, it should show on your page. Once that's working, you know the module is working and you can try to find a position where it doesn't 'mess up everything else' :)

I hope that helps explain,
Alex

Hi guys,

Just one further query on this.

I see now that the thing works and I have set it to show Facebook and twitter however I am at a loss to understand what actually happens if the Facebook button is pressed.

We tried pressing it whilst logged on as a user who is registered on the site with an associated Facebook component however no mention of this was made in their Facebook activity log.

Even more confusing is the fact that it is present and increments when it is pressed without anybody logged in to the site.

Could you advise please what actually happens when this button is pressed?

thanks,

Paula

I think the best description of how the Like button works is from Facebook's own documentation of it:
developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button/

Generally though, when a user Like's your page, it should show in the Activity Log of Facebook. However, that doesn't mean it will show your Facebook timeline/feed.

The count on the Like button will show how many users have Like'd the page. So, if you Like from one account, and then visit the page with another, the count will still show (at least) 1.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex
