It looks like JFBConnect is creating an open graph extension that's mucking up the RSS feed on my Joomla website. It's very strange because I don't have the open graph extension enabled, but it seems that a Facebook open graph is creating a html line on every menu item I create (or article, I'm not sure). The thing is that I have some Facebook features running on my website through JFBConnect (like and share buttons, comments and login using Facebook). They all work fine, but my RSS feed on my "What's New" page comes out empty. I was discussing this issue with Joomla developers and they think the problem may be related to your component. If you click Feed Validatorhere you will see that the second line of my RSS page is highlighted and it shows this:

<html prefix="og: ogp.me/ns# fb: ogp.me/ns/fb# englishwithsteve: ogp.me/ns/fb/englishwithsteve#" xmlns:fb="ogp.me/ns/fb#" dir="ltr" lang="en-gb">

In this case, "englishwithsteve" was the name I created on Facebook to get the Facebook app id and secret key to configure Facebook on JFBConnect. But, despite the fact that I disabled any Facebook features on my "What's New" feed page, the html line above is still there.

Can you please help solving this issue?

Many thanks,

Steve

That code you show definitely looks more like an HTML webpage than an RSS feed. If I load that page in the browser, it also looks just like your website and not an RSS feed.

In general, JFBConnect shouldn't mess with RSS feeds. We have one on this site, and many other sites use them without issue. The quickest/easiest way to check is simply disabling our JFBCSystem plugin. That should turn off all our features and remove the og namespace elements you called out above. If you still have issues, there's more of an underlying issue with your RSS feed.

If the issue is fixed when you disable our plugin though, let us know, and we'll gladly help investigate further.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your answer. The thing is that I already have done what you suggested (and cleaned Joomla cache after disabling all your plugins and even the component), but the script on my pages stay the same. Does JFBConnect change phisically my template or configuration files in any way? This is another question raised by the Joomla developers in the support Joomla Forum .

Could you please point me in the right direction? I'm totally lost here as I have never done RSS in Joomla before.

Many thanks,

Steve

JFBConnect sets all the tags dynamically on the page. We don't alter *any* files that aren't related to JFBConnect and when you disable our plugins, all of our functionality should cease.

I'd recommend narrowing things down by doing the following:
* Disable JFBConnect.
* Disable SEF URLs within Joomla or if you are using any 3rd party SEF utilities
* Disable caching in the Joomla Global Configuration area and any other optimization extensions you may have enabled
Test again. Make sure the RSS URL you're testing is non-SEF.

If that works, start re-enabling things one-by-one to see where things break.

If it still doesn't work with the above, try a different template or start disabling other extensions/plugins you have enabled to narrow down the culprit.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Sorry to hear that. I hope the suggestions I had above can help narrow things down if you decide to try again. If you do find the problem is related to JFBConnect in any way, we'll gladly do what we can to help get you going.

Thanks,
Alex
