The fix from that topic, to properly indicate a field is required, was implemented in this release. We still do not perform the validation of the fields using JomSocial's validation Javascript, which I think is what you were asking. As noted in that thread, it would be very difficult and not a highly requested feature. Our recommendation, if that is necessary, is to use JomSocial's own registration flow for all registration, both social network authentication and regular signups.
