I have a bit of a puzzle which I hope you can assist me with.

When I 'like' or 'share' to Facebook the content that appears in the pop up is old page content that has been edited and the new content doesn't appear. This is not repeated for every page on my site but there are numerous other examples where this is happening.

It doesn't appear to be cached content as I have cleared all the cache both through the Joomla control panel and manually using FTP to ensure nothing was held in cache.

Am I missing something - is there a cache somewhere that JFBConnect uses that is separate from the normal Joomla cache?

There are two images attached - the first is the current page and the second is what is being sent to Facebook and this was the previous content.

Any advice on this?
regards,
Jimmuk

If the correct content is not consistent on every page, this would lead me to believe that Facebook might not have scraped the new content on the pages having a problem. Please re-scrape the pages with the incorrect data with the Facebook Open Graph Debugger or SourceCoast's Social Debugger to see if the new previews are correct. If this does not fix your problem, then we'll have to investigate if the Open Graph tags are set correctly for the pages in question.

Just wanted to note, there are no images attached to your post. After you upload the file, you have to then click the green arrow to attach it to the post.

Many thanks for your prompt response Melissa and helpful comments.

I didn't realise that Facebook is 'scraping' the content and this will explain why the old content is still showing - it is actually a Facebook cache that is in effect.

It also explains what is happening. My site is still 'offline' to the public so I assume that the Facebook scraper has not had access either to allow it to scrape the new content.

I tested this and seems to be correct. Using Facebook's own Facebook Open Graph Debugger I tried to rescrape with the site offline and found several errors reported and the old content being displayed. I put the site online and rescraped with the debugger and the problems resolved although it did highlight several minor issues I need to resolve.

Good call Melissa and you put me on the right track. When I'm ready with the site I'll have to ensure all the pages are revisited by Facebook to update.

I think this issue can be marked as resolved

Great, glad that solved the issue. Keep in mind that now that your site is online, it may take Facebook some time to scrape all of your pages. Sometimes it can be days/weeks, but really depends on several factors such as how much traffic your page gets, how new your site is, etc, but the timing to do this is not something we have any control over. Obviously, just keep in mind that you may need to re-scrape as you fix the minor issues you found.
