Hi,

I have a list os articles, showing the intro text in a category view.

I want to give the user a icon to share each article, with its own og:image, etc...

If I use the tags they are applied only to the page even that I make different tags for each article.

Any idea ?

Thanks
jj

JJ,
When you share an article, the Open Graph tags from that destination article are what are used. You can use JFBConnect to add sharing buttons to a category blog layout automatically. Each of those buttons will link to the actual article, not the current page.

Mainly, you just need to make sure you have the correct tags set in your article, which JFBConnect can help to automatically set as well.

I hope that helps explain, but if you have any questions, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the reply.

In did I was considering already what you were saying but it simply doesn't work.

I have in each article, on the intro text, several tags to make sure I am controlling what is posted by article. The tags are related with the description I want to post and the image I want to be used.

Then on each article, on the intro section just before the readmore, i am using the share tags in order they are made available to the user.

What happens is that when I share the last article, everything goes ok, but when I share any other article then it simply does not recognize the JFB tags, strange no ?

Thanks
jj

Can you try using the Facebook Open Graph Debugger to see what tags that Facebook thinks are on the page having problems? It's possible that Facebook has not re-scraped your pages since you've made the changes. If you force a re-scrape and the tags/share preview looks correct, then this would be your problem. Please make sure to enter your URL, hit the debug button, then hit the 'Fetch new scrape information' button.

If you try the above with no luck, please provide a specific URL so that we can see the behavior in action.

I have in each article, on the intro text, several tags to make sure I am controlling what is posted by article. The tags are related with the description I want to post and the image I want to be used.

This is likely incorrect. If you're including the Open Graph tags in the intro text, and then using a category blog layout to show the intro text of all articles, then the blog page itself will be getting the Open Graph tags for the articles. You should set the Open Graph tags in the full-text so that they are only used on the article layout itself. I hope that makes sense.

Then on each article, on the intro section just before the readmore, i am using the share tags in order they are made available to the user.

This could be ok. Just make sure that you are including the destination URL in the share tag. If you don't, then Facebook and other widgets will assume the user is sharing the current page, which would be the blog layout. The Like button wouldn't be for the actual article itself.

Just so you know, JFBConnect comes with the JFBCContent plugin, which is meant to automatically add share buttons, along with the proper destination URL to your blog layouts. That may prevent some of the issues you're having above by making sure the share buttons are pointing to the correct URL.

If you have any questions, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex
