How are you registering - through a social network or the register button? If through the register button, do you have the same behavior with the standard mod_login Joomla module? Have you tried disabling the JomSocial redirect plugin?
Could you provide a URL and more detailed steps on how to reproduce this issue? As the questions above indicate, there are several different flows that could potentially get to that behavior.
