HI, I've tried following the video you posted for being able to let the app connect and share to Facebook using the open graph.

Unfortunately, the video you posted is way out of date for Joomla 3.4 and the new Facebook developer's site.
Could you post some simple steps as to what I need to put where to get my apps set right and get it approved by Facebook. I know you need to put specific descriptions on the Facebook app page to get approved. I also would love to have step by step for making open graph apps in JBC Connect to get it up and running to allow people to share posts in Jomsocial to their personal time lines. Your instructions just seem kind of confusing to me. Also, Do I need to have a SSL certificate to make this all work. Sorry for all the questions. I just want to get this right the first time. Thanks.

to allow people to share posts in Jomsocial to their personal time lines.

Having a user's status updates in JomSocial post back to Facebook does not use the Open Graph system. For that, you can simply enable the Social Profiles - JomSocial plugin and in the Profiles configuration area, enable the "Push status updates to social network" setting.

Also, Do I need to have a SSL certificate to make this all work.

Not for Open Graph Actions. SSL is required to use the Facebook Canvas or Page Tab areas, which is where you can show your site within Facebook.com, like:
apps.facebook.com/joomla-extensions
The Facebook Requests feature also relies on the Canvas, which means you'd need SSL to allow user invites/requests

Configuring Open Graph Actions
The video is definitely out of date and used Joomla 2.5, but the steps within JFBConnect and even the Facebook Developer area are mostly unchanged. The Dev area does look different, but the menu items for Open Graph and Creating a Story are still intact (with a fresh coat of paint on them).

If you can let me know what kind of action you're trying to setup though, we'll gladly try to give you pointers on how things should be configured. We have plans to update our videos as well, but they take some time... and Facebook (and Joomla) are constantly changing.

Thanks,
Alex

Yes, Id love to be able to have our main web site open on Facebook as your site does!

I guess our biggest need is for people to be able to share a post from Jomsocial back to Facebook and control where it would be shared. Like on their timeline or in another group.

Once I activate social share that will bring the users posts to Jomsocial and vice versa I assume.

Im just having a lot of push back from my co founder cause jom social even with the jfbc connect plug in doesn't share or act as much like facebook as they like.

Any help I can get would be great!

Sorry for the delayed response. Hopefully I can help answer your questions and help get you going.

Yes, Id love to be able to have our main web site open on Facebook as your site does!

For this, you'll simply need an SSL certificate on your site and to run Autotune. JFBConnect will set things up for you and then you just need to visit your app on Facebook by going to apps.facebook.com/<your_namespace>

I guess our biggest need is for people to be able to share a post from Jomsocial back to Facebook and control where it would be shared. Like on their timeline or in another group.

With JFBConnect, you have an option in the Profiles -> JomSocial area to automatically push users posts to Facebook. That's an automatic process though and the user can only opt-in or out of that based on if they grant the permission to post on their behalf when the authenticate with Facebook. After that, JFBConnect can post for them.

In this case, it will always go to their own Timeline. We don't have a way to push a status update from a user to different places, like a FB fanpage or FB group. That would take a lot more permissions to be granted by the user as well as more logic to determine where the post should go.

Im just having a lot of push back from my co founder cause jom social even with the jfbc connect plug in doesn't share or act as much like facebook as they like.

There's lots of different areas that JFBConnect can help integrate with Facebook. Everything you may want isn't guaranteed to be there though as we support what our users have requested over the users. Right now, for JomSocial specifically, that means:
* Avatar, cover photo and customized profile import
* Pushing of status updates to Facebook
* Pulling of status updates from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
* Open Graph Action support for uploading a photo or joining a group
* Open Graph tags for many different areas of JomSocial to help with the metadata that is used in a FB post.

That's all in addition to the other features we support, like improved authentication experience, social sharing features, Facebook invitations and much more.

I hope that helps explain a bit more, but if there's anything else we can help with, let me know.

Thanks,
Alex
