Hello,

Just got your extension and I'm looking to use JFBConnect to had a way to auto post status update done with Jomsocial to other social network.
Is there an easy way to do this, or any configuration that need to be done in Jomsocial/ JFBConnect ?

Please enable the 'Social Profiles - JomSocial' extension. To configure the settings for posts to/from your Facebook wall, go to JFBConnect backend > Profiles > JomSocial tab. There are two options - 'Push Social Network Status' which brings FB wall posts to the user's JomSocial feed when enabled and 'Import Social Network Status' which pushes JomSocial feed posts to Facebook.

Currently, Facebook is the only social network this is supported for, but we have plans to broaden this to the other networks in the future. Unfortunately, I don't have a timeline for that yet.

Thank you for your response, and sorry about my late answer.

But I tried to follow what you say, and looks like I must be missing something.

Do I have to setup specific permissions to the facebook app in order to post the update ?

After you select the options in our Profiles area, JFBConnect will request the correct 'publish_actions' permission when you authenticate. You can then test that the behavior works correctly by using an admin of the FB app. When you want to roll out the functionality to your regular users, you will then need to go through the Status & Review for your application in Facebook for the 'publish_actions' permission.

This is all working, thanks a lot for your help.

I still have two more questions :

Is it possible to make the status update on a page instead of wall for specific users ?

Can the status sharing feature be available with group in Jomsocial too ?

No. JFBConnect only can push status updates from a JomSocial user to their Facebook profile. It would take extensive work to add the permissions request, the Page selection (when a user administers more than one Page) and other tools that would be required to post to a user's Page on their behalf. I also don't think that would be a widely used feature as most users would expect the post to go to their own wall and not a Page.

Can the status sharing feature be available with group in Jomsocial too ?

No. A status update in JomSocial is just like a status update in Facebook. A post to a group is different entirely and won't make sense in most cases to push that to the user's Facebook wall as though it's a status update. I guess if you could explain more about how you'd see this working, we could think through it further, but it doesn't seem like something many users would expect a post to a group on your site to show up in their Facebook timeline.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks a lot for your answer.

In fact the group status forwarding to Facebook was just to create a bit of traffic to the website, but I think we'll keep it that way.

For the page it would have been useful to for example link the jomsocial user to the website facebook page, instead of going to a private profile.

Thanks a lot for your help and your support.
