Hello

Is it somehow possible using your system to have it so that a user can select what user group he will be in after regestration?
I will most likely have a specail feature for normal users and another special feature on the website for company's.
I'd like to have it so that when a user registers he can pick "Personal" or "Company" and therefore get a different layout of the website.

I am using JFBConnect and SClogin

My website: bilasidan.is

If it is not supported with you and you can not add this for me.. do you maybe know of a program that runs well with JFBconnect and SClogin to make this work? :)

Thanks!

I really don't have a good suggestion here. JFBConnect will default all users into the "Registered" category. In an update later this year, we'll have an option that you can set the default group for all users. However, we're not planning on a method for letting the user themselves select the group as that has a lot of implementation and security implications to make sure only the proper groups are accessible.

I'm also not really aware of any great extensions that are specifically for letting users choose their own group. I've got to believe there is something out there that does offer that, but I don't stay up to date on all the extensions available, so I don't really have a good recommendation.

Should you find something that works for you, it would likely need to let the user select their group after registration (since JFBConnect currently only puts all users in one group). Of course, if you run into issues with what you find and JFBConnect, we'll gladly help however we can.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex

Thank you for taking your time to answer my request

I understand what you are say'n and I have found a solution that I am testing out currently.
There was a extension that I installed that adds a dropdown on registration form where users select the usergroup that fits to them. I can select what user groups are selectable / viewable there.

I have found that if I register via the normal joomla reg form it works 100%. users are placed in the correct group. but when I use the "Register with FB/twitter" feature I do get the dropdown to select. but none the less, as you stated, your system puts that user in the default group

I do belive that is ok for me atm unless I find something wrong with it later on since that the group that JFBConnect assigns to a user in FB/Twitter reg is the personal group while the other group is company group and usualy compays I would thing wont use FB to login / register since they usualy have FB pages and not profiles.
SO I guess it all works out :)

IF not I will most likely ask again here in hopes of some kind of assistance if possible. but for now. thank you :)

Best regards!

Can you let us know what plugin your using for user-group selection? With a minor edit to our code, my guess is that we could use the setting that's selected and create the user with that group as well.

We'll see what we can do.. but no guarantees :)

Thanks,
Alex
