SEO and Compression was created by timmil
Quick question, I just moved the site to its final resting position in the root directory from a subdirectory. Should that affect anything?

Also, How does a plugin like Easy Frontend SEO interact with JFB Connect? I don't want to shoot myself in the foot, but do need to have someone do a little bit of SEO work...

Last Question: GZip or RokBooster (RocketTheme)- will either of them pose an issue with any of the tags or anything in JFB Connect?

Thanks in advance,

You will probably need to tweak your settings for each of the social networks for which you allow users to authentication. For Facebook, you can use the Autotune tool to update the Facebook configuration, and for others, you can follow the guidelines at www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/soci...etwork-applications/

In general, for SEO extensions you will need to disable the SEO routing for JFBConnect URL's. Keeping it enabled, the social networks will encounter errors when they call back during the authentication process.

As far as GZip, if you are using the GZip page compression option in the Global Configuration area, then yes, you could very well have issues with Open Graph tags. Some server configurations and this setting in global configuration can prevent Facebook from scanning your pages correctly. If GZip is needed, we'd recommend enabling it in Apache directly, instead of Joomla. Please see www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/common-support-questions "My Share Preview is Incorrect" for more details on GZip.

Many sites run with RokBooster and JFBConnect without any issues. Obviously, if you run into any issues we can help you debug and resolve them.

I hope this answers your questions, but let us know if you need any more clarification.

Great, I'll have to give RokBooster a go.

As far as SEO, I believe then the best option is to just edit every article's meta data individually. Is that what you suggest?

It's up to you on the type of SEO you're trying for. There's meta titles and description which can be edited in the article, or automatically generated by Joomla. When those are set, JFBConnect will automatically use them as your Open Graph title and description as well.

If you're looking to change the URLs to something that's more readable, that's something JFBConnect will respect and use the correct og:url tag for as well. That pretty URL will then be shown in previews on Facebook. As mentioned above, if you get a 3rd party extension that tries to be aggressive about re-writing URLs, it can interfere with some social network's login processes though and you'll want to instruct that extension not to alter JFBConnect URLs. Most SEO extensions make that easy to do.

In general, JFBConnect will work with whatever SEO methods you choose. There are tools/extensions out there to help with SEO on your site, but Joomla also offers a lot of tools by itself to do any of the above.

I hope that helps,
Melissa
