Topic-icon Sigplus {gallery} tag conflicts with JFBConnect's syntax

Been really enjoying the functionality of JFBConnect on my new Joomla 3 website. Tried many social media solutions before for Joomla and this one is the best.

When adding Sigplus image gallery to my article, which uses the same tag system as the Content - JFBCContent plugin, found there to be a conflict.

The results is extra curly bracket tags in the comment/like tool at the end of the article, e.g. mygallery{/gallery}}

Also, a little frustrating that shared content includes the normally hidden tags {gallery}mygallery{/gallery}, but can live with that.

Thanks.

That's strange. I just installed sigplus on my test site to look at this issue and my gallery was rendered properly and I see the images (and not the tags).

Can you tell me some more details:
1. Are you using the latest JFBConnect version 6.2.4? There have been some past issues with tags being stripped out improperly that have been resolved with the last releases.
2. Can you tell me the exact URL of the page you're seeing this on?
3. If you temporarily disable all of the JFBC plugins (auth, content, user, and system), is the gallery able to load correctly?
4. Since it sounds like you're using our Content plugin, what are your settings in the JFBConnect > Social area for the article you're seeing this problem on - for instance position of comment/like, etc?
5. Do you have any of our other plugins enabled, such as the Open Graph plugins?
6. What content component are you using - Joomla articles or K2 items?

I'm sure I might have some more questions after these are answered, but this can start to help me narrow down your issue.

Hi Melissa. Thanks for the prompt follow up.

1. Are you using the latest JFBConnect version 6.2.4?
Yes. Only installed it last week.

2. Can you tell me the exact URL of the page you're seeing this on?

lemiere.com/dream-diary/3-dream-diary-january-2015

Note down the bottom, next to comment section is the output: dream-diary/2015/01{/gallery}}

3. If you temporarily disable all of the JFBC plugins (auth, content, user, and system), is the gallery able to load correctly?

Yes. The Sigplus gallery loads fine (with or without JFBC)

4. Since it sounds like you're using our Content plugin, what are your settings in the JFBConnect > Social area for the article you're seeing this problem on - for instance position of comment/like, etc?

Yes. Played with the plugin content tags, as wanted to see how Virtuemart might handle JFBConnect within a product. Not using the JFBConnect tags though in the URL provided however.

5. Do you have any of our other plugins enabled, such as the Open Graph plugins?

Ah-Ha!! Searched under Plugin Manager for open graph, and yes, what look like default plugins, I had enabled:

Open Graph - Custom Object & Open Graph - Content

Sorry, just figured they needed to be turned on. Have now turned them OFF, and all works fine. Guess they conflicted with JFBConnect ...

6. What content component are you using - Joomla articles or K2 items?
Just plain old Joomla article.

Thanks for your help. The diagnostic list of questions has solved the problem. Have now left the Open Graph plugins turned off, so you won't see the error any more. =)

From the detail that having the 'Open Graph - Content' plugin being enabled causes the problem, I was able to drill down into this further and linked this to a known bug with adding the Pinterest PinIt button via our Content plugin.

This might not seem related, but if the 'Show Pinterest PinIt' option in the JFBConnect > Social > Like tabs is enabled, the problem happens when our Open Graph Content plugin is enabled. Basically the PinIt button requires a description and we automatically try to generate it from the article text using the OG Content plugin. In your article, the text that is getting retrieved is {gallery}NAMEOFGALLERY{/gallery}, and when it is included in the button, screws up the HTML of the page/sigplus tag.

Open Graph - Content and Custom Plugins are certainly not required on your site. The OG Content plugin is, however, very useful in adding the og:description and possibly og:image tags on your page and creating a more useful/descriptive Facebook Like or Share preview. So my suggestion would be if you better og:description tags than from the meta description tag for your share previews, then keep the Open Graph Content plugin enabled, but disable the 'Show Pinterest PinIt' option in the Social configuration area.

I hope this helps explain it, and shouldn't be a problem to just turn off the PinIt button on your since it doesn't appear to be loading correctly anyways. Let me know if you run into any more issues.

Thanks

Thanks Mel,

Got it, I understand. Have now turned the Open Graph Content plugin back on. Yes, do need it for better description sharing.

Am less of a Pinterest user at the moment, so might consider turning this feature off.

Overall through, can see that any Joomla plugin that uses curly bracket tags is a bit unfriendly to social sharing. Can see that the classic image and a bit of text is the most user friendly for everyone to share around.

Really appreciate the help.

In general, the bracket tags will only break our Pinterest button if there is not enough text in the article before the tags. If you'd like to make the PinIt functionality work, play around with what text is in the article so there is enough of a description to use. As it sounds like this is not something critical to you at all, just keep it in mind going forward, but glad it's working for you now.

Thanks
