That's normal behavior by Facebook. How an action is shown depends on many different factors based on the action itself, the viewer and the poster. For things like "Reading an article" that is posted automatically without any interaction from the user, Facebook gives it much less weight, which means it won't show in the Timeline often. However, if a friend of yours has also read the same article, or even has registered on the same site, the chances of it showing in the feed or the 'friend ticker' increases.
Other actions that the user initiates on your site are given more weight because Facebook knows that the user really wants it shown on their Timeline. Even then though, there's no guarantee on who will see it.
