I'm glad to hear you're happy with the authentication speed. We're always going to great pains to speed that process up however we can, as well as everything else.
As for the recommendations, where can I see that module? You can just give a relative path so you don't have to post the domain if you don't want. Recommendations are all based on "Likes" for content on your site and they are tailored to the visiting user. Another option is to try the Activity module (SCSocial Widget -> Facebook -> Activity) to show the most recent activity from your site and see if anything appears there.
One other note is that the activity that Facebook tracks is completely based on your domain. If you visit the site over www and Like something, that activity won't be shown if the user visits the site over non-www, if possible.
Finally, the recommendations bar has been
discontinued by Facebook
. It's supposed to continue working through November 5th, but I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks sooner.
