My site is at driver2driver.me

Pinterest button has been working find since I installed JFBC a few months ago.

Today when I click it, it opens a small window as it usually does but instead of showing the Pinterest posting details in the window, nothing happens.

I need your help please ..

Many Thanks

To save your time you can go directly to one of the pages that have the pin it button, here is one
driver2driver.me/prod/cars/reviews/item/82-fiat-500l-2014

By the way I cleared the cache both on the site and browser but this did not change anything.

The Pinterest Pin button seems to be having some issues. When I click it on your site and choose "Login with Facebook", I get an error message from Facebook. This has nothing to do with JFBConnect.

Beyond that though, when I am already logged into Pinterest, if I click the Pin button on your site, the proper popup comes up. Can you test again? It could have been a fleeting problem. If it still doesn't work, please:
* Try from a different browser - It's possible an add-on is preventing Pinterest from showing
* Try from a different computer - It's possible a virus scanner or anti-malware program is blocking Pinterest altogether.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Thanks Alex

I have been trying all day from multiple browsers on 2 PCs with the sale result, not working.
But since you said it worked for you, I tried now from a 3rd PC and I was able to pin a couple of items.

What do you advise me to look for in order to fix this? I am not worried about how I can pin something but more about the site visitors and whether they will have a poor experience with pinning their favorite items.

Thanks

I'd check the 2 PCs that fail to see if they have any of the following:
* Anti-Virus, Malware or Spyware software installed. If so, try disabling those temporarily. Some of those types of extensions prevent accessing some social networks.
* Any sort of privacy software installed.
* A 3rd party firewall enabled. The default Windows/Mac firewalls are fine. Again though, some software intentionally blocks social networks.

Within the browser(s) you're using, check that you don't have any privacy/stealth add-ons installed like Ghostery or others. These add-ons are intentionally meant to block social networks.

I'm not sure what it would be beyond that, but there's plenty of possible software that could be preventing this type of connection.. you'll just need to narrow down the culprit.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi

I have disabled anti virus software and the firewall, no change still not working
Mind you Linkedin, Twitter and Face book buttons are working.

But here is a strange thought, this is the url that gets generated when I try to pin a page:
gb.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=...20chance%20to%20roar

I thought the %2F was strange so I replaced it with /
I replaced %3A with :
and I replaced gb with www

And that worked .. does this give you any ideas?

Awaiting your response.

Ayman,
The %3A and other types of values are encodings of those values. Since : and // (and &, =, and others) have special meanings in URLs, they have to be encoded first to prevent confusion by the server receiving the request. For instance, if you have
http://site.com?index.php?option=com_jfbconnect&url=http://site.com/?test=blah
The last portion could be parsed in multiple different ways.. test=blah is a whole new query string, the ? can mean that all the query strings before it are invalid, etc... when all you really want to do is pass a URL as the parameter.

So, the encoding above is correct.

I'm not sure what would be preventing that button from working on the 2 computers your using, but it must be something else. Unfortunately, I don't have the answers for that as it's a Pinterest button. We simply implement it. If you're looking for more to test, I'd search for Pinterest button issues in Google or in Pinterests documentation. I don't have any other ideas or suggestions as to what it could be since it *is* working as far as I can see.

Thanks for your patience Alex.

One more observation, even when the button does not work, if I simply replace gb.pinterest.com ... with www.pinterest.com ... in the url it works right away.

Does that give you any ideas?

Sorry to be a pain!

Ayman,
I'm not sure where that 'gb.' is coming from. My guess is that the Pinterest Javascript file that we load is prepending that value to the URL for some reason (it could be a language string or just meant to redirect some traffic to other servers for better load balancing).

If you open the HTML of your page and search for pinterest, the only code you'll see from JFBConnect regarding that button is:
<a href="//pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdriver2driver.me%2Fprod%2Fcars%2Freviews%2Fitem%2F82-fiat-500l-2014&media=http%3A%2F%2Fdriver2driver.me%2Fprod%2Fmedia%2Fk2%2Fitems%2Fcache%2Faaa082d2257ab65aecf61c2340e9c5b9_XL.jpg" data-pin-config="none" data-pin-do="buttonPin" ><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pin_it_button.png" /></a>
That text is what we put there. Pinterest's own Javascript can alter that however they want. We don't have control of what they're doing.

Again though, even with that prefix, it is working for me, so the gb. likely isn't the direct problem. There must be something between your monitor and Pinterest itself that is causing issues with the gb.pinterest domain. That could be:
* Browser issues (add-ons causing conflicts)
* Software issues (anti-virus, anti-malware)
* OS issues (firewall, incorrect internet settings)
* Router (firewall, incorrect DNS settings)
* ISP (blocking of some requests)
* Even further up internet stuff well outside of your control

I really don't know what it could be, but again, everything seems right and is working from my end.

I hope that helps narrow things down, but I'm pretty clueless as to what could be causing your issues.

Thanks,
Alex
