Hi,
I am using Joomla for quite a while but I am new to JFBConnect. I have got a question about tagging.
Is it possible to tag FB users in articles/content the same way when you for example comment on the Facebook site? See screen print.
A lot of my friends use FB and are mentioned on my website. Would be nice to tag them in content.
Could not find this on the forum. Thank you very much for the answer.

There really isn't a way in Facebook to do this while on a website. We do have a way to allow for friend tagging when using our Open Graph Action popups (where you can write a message about something you're doing and where you're at). So, it is possible to fetch the current user's friends and show a drop down. To test what I'm talking about, go to facebook.sourcecoast.com , login, click into a recipe and hit the "I ate" button.

However, that's a very specific field, so it's easy to monitor for a user's friends name being input there.. that's the expectation.

If you can tell me more about how you would want the tagging to work, and how users are entering their friends names, that may help us understand more. Are your users actually writing content articles on your site? Would you want the tagging to be a drop-down as they type someone's name, or just try to automatically detect a name and link it to Facebook? Need more information, but I'll be honest, it'd be very difficult to do what Facebook does on their site (scanning each character entered to see if it may be a friend).

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply.

What I thought that would be nice, when you write a travel journey for example, when you mention a FB friend in your journey that a drop-down menu shows like it does on FB as well. Then you can select (like my screenshot) the FB friend you have been traveling with. My users are not writing on my site. They do have a normal account which hasn't been linked to FB yet via your component. But what you mention would be great also, automatically detect a name and link it to Facebook. I understand that this is difficult. Would be a nice feature though.

Thanks again and it would be great to keep me posted about this feature.

Cheers

It is something we've added to our 'investigate' list, but again, likely not something we'd be able to implement soon, if at all.

One other question though, you mention:

Then you can select (like my screenshot) the FB friend you have been traveling with. My users are not writing on my site.

Where are you looking for this behavior and for who, then? Would your users be creating the content or just you/admins? Would it be created in the admin area or front-end?

Not sure if your answers will change much about what can be done, but being more specific about where the functionality would work could make it more easy to implement.

Thanks,
Alex

I write my articles/content from the admin part of my site. So when I write about a FB friend it would be nice to select them form the drop-down list. So the functionality would be appreciated in the admin part.
What I also can do is use a replace component and automatically replace a username with a link to it's FB profile.

Just thought that what FB implemented on their site wasn't a "big" thing but I am not a programmer;-)

Many thanks for the quick support.

No problem for the support. We like talking through ideas with our users and appreciate the feedback and idea. We do have this in our 'to-investigate' list, but it's not the highest priority thing right now. We'll keep you posted on if we come up with anything or feel free to post back here later on in case you're curious if we've made any progress.

Thanks,
Alex
