Topic-icon Should I renew the social bundle?

Hi there,

My social bundle is running out, and I'm unsure as to whether to renew it or not. I thought I remembered hearing that we were moving to one single extension and thus, the jLinked extension would be merged. I also thought I remembered hearing that all those who had a social bundle were to be in some way rewarded, but have heard nothing since. at present it feels to me like I should just renew the Facebook part of the extension.

Can anyone advise me on this? Would I still be eligible for a 30% discount? It would seem unfair that you plan to stop supporting one extension but my only option to get a discount is to renew it.

The renewal discount works for any of our extensions, so you'd be able to extend just JFBConnect if you want. For those who have the social bundle when the LinkedIn functionality is rolled into JFBConnect, we'll be moving their subscription to JFBConnect and extending that subscription with extra time (they'll be going from a subscription that was for 2 extensions for 6 months to only one, so the time remaining will be at least doubled, though we'll be throwing some extra time in as well).. I hope that makes sense.

So, it's up to you which way to go. We are not planning any major changes to JLinked going forward, though there may be a minor bug release or something like that. Honestly, in your position, I'd say go for JFBConnect. *IF* we release some big change to JLinked or a major bug, we'll provide it publicly. As a 'former' user of JLinked, if you contacted us, I'm sure we'd give you a copy of the new release as well..

It's a weird transition, we know.. but that's part of the reason we announced it in advance. We wanted to get user feedback and make sure everyone knew the changes that were afoot.

Much as I appreciate your honesty.... why wouldn't I renew both and get the additional time when it arrives? Double time and a bit extra sounds like I'd be saving money in the long run if I have understood correctly?

As a side note, I like the styling of your reply box, but your top icons (JCE??) seem to have become staggered, the right hand side has dropped to the bottom. Just to clarify a bit, it is the icons for bold italic etc are normal, but from "add table" onwards to the right, they are on the line below with a gap above. I've attached a screen shot to help out.

Thanks for pointing out the crummy bar. I removed a lot of unnecessary icons and fixed the extra row.

As for renewing now, please note I didn't say we'd double the whole 6 months. The release with LinkedIn integration should be out in December, or 3 months from now. At that time, there'd be about 3 months left on your subscription. We haven't fully figured out what we're going to do yet, but likely we'd add 6 months onto your subscription and you'd get 9 total months for the social bundle.

The benefit for users who have never had JLinked is that you get LinkedIn integration 'now' as well as later when they are integrated, along with a some more time for your subscription price. The drawback is that your still spending the socialbundle price of $100 to get that (or the renewal rate).

There will be other things that we have to work through as well, like if someone buys the social bundle one month before LinkedIn is integrated.. we won't be giving 12 or 10 months (giving you an 18 month subscription, basically). There will be some formula, along with a little extra time, as a thank you for choosing the social bundle.

In your case, since you already have JLinked, it's your call as to whether to get the social bundle and pay a little extra now, or be up for renewal again ~March next year.

Oops, I just got an email saying I forgot to renew, is there any chance I can still get the discount somehow? Sorry to be a disorganised pain. Also I wanted to register as a business on renewal but I don't have a VAT number (because I don't require one yet). It's a required field though.

No worries, you wouldn't be the first to be a day late. I just extended your subscription by 48 hours. You should be able to renew with the discount now.

You can still register as a business on the site. The VAT field shouldn't prevent you from submitting even if it's blank.. if it is, let me know.

Hi Alzander,

Thanks a million for doing that, although I renewed the Facebook extension only and I don't think it applied the discount. The invoice states Discount applied: 0.

I thought it was going to apply one?

No problem for doing that, even though it didn't work! :) I just refunded the difference ($18) to you through PayPal. That helped us actually as it seems like we didn't have the proper discount applying when going from social bundle 'down' to JFBConnect.. so I'm glad you tested and let us know what happened.

As always, if you have any other feedback or suggestions, just let me know. I also just replied to your comments on the Notifications blog post.. thanks for letting us know how you'd use that feature!
