Topic-icon Is it possible to set up Opengraph so that it posts to a Page

HI,
My group has a website and a facebook page. I would like to use JFBConnect (Opengraph I think) so that when I publish an article on the website, it is reflected on the Groups Page and not in all the users timelines as "read article"

Is this possible and if it is could you please point me to the documentation where I can follow the document to complete the setup.

Thanks

Rich

Rich,
We don't currently support auto-posting articles to a Page. It's a feature that we'll likely add later this year (as well as support for other social networks that would support posting).

However, even when implemented, we still wouldn't recommend auto-posting new content. It's honestly best to post your own content manually so that you can control the intro text and timing of the article to really have the most flexibility. Auto-posting takes a lot of control out of your hands. While it makes things easier, it may not help you to get as much visibility as if you tailored the post to your Page and audience.

Open Graph Actions are only meant to go to a user's Timeline because they are 'actions' that the user has taken.

I hope that helps explain, but if not, let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
Thank you for your advice - I will be happy to create the content article manually and then issue a "manual" action to post it to my groups Facebook Page - I am hoping that the manual action will be something that can be issued easily as I am hoping to give it to site admin users as well as myself.

I will look forward to the update - do you know which version of the Roadmap you are planning to make this live in please?

There's a few ideas we have. We don't really like the idea of automatically posting content to a Page, but will probably eventually implement that. Early on, I can see having a button on the page (only shown to certain groups of users) that would have a popup (for a message) and will post the content to the selected Page.

Is that something that you'd be interested in? Just trying to get some feedback before we implement something.. the above won't be available until at least v5.2 (October) but more likely v5.3 (December).

Thanks,
Alex

Alex, I would certainly be interested in helping to test the feature if you need me too

One question - In your text below

"I can see having a button on the page(1) (only shown to certain groups of users) that would have a popup (for a message) and will post the content to the selected Page(2)."

What is the actual page that is referred to in the text Page(1) and Page(2) - Webpage / Facebook Page / User Page??

Yeah, that was a bit confusing. Let me try again:
I can see having a button or Javascript 'hover box' that shows as you navigate your site on every page. This box would only be shown to certain groups of users, like admins. While navigating the site, the box would say "Post this to: Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc" with a message box. Then, the user/admin could easily be on any page of the site and have a very easy way to 'push' that content to a social network Facebook Page, Twitter Feed, etc.

So, it wouldn't be automated, but hopefully much easier.

Hope that explains better.

Alex,
That sounds like a great idea, however for me I would only want to see it on an article, not page level. Theres alot of chaff, headers, menus, login boxes, footers etc in the pages which I wouldn't want posted to facebook. If I'm understanding what you are saying will be posted, it would be better if we could selectr what will be.

Rich,
The feature is still under investigation only. There would definitely be configuration options or easy to hide methods so it's not overlaying all of your content.

In general though, it sounds like something you'd be interested in, which is what we mainly like to know.

Thanks, as always, for your feedback. If you have any other questions or comments, just let us know.
