Return to page they were on after login/registration

Hi,
It's often the case that a user is forced to login or signup when they were in the middle of taking an action e.g. leaving a review. it is highly annoying for a user to then have to begin the process or try to remember where they were and how to get there after logging in or signing up. Is there a setting to allow people to return to the page they were on before they logged in/signup?

Ideally there should be choice given to the user:
Return to page you were on
Go to your profile/account
Go to home page

is there a way to get this done? is there a plugin that does this?
