I'm noticing that sessions expire very fast. Basically, the next time I visit the site, I need to login again. Am I overlooking a setting here? Does the "remember me" checkbox apply to FB logins as well?

Also, and particularly for mobile, the FB button takes a while to render. On mobile, there are times it does not render at all and that throws off new users.

Any advice on these issues greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The remember me box doesn't apply to Facebook logins. You can enable the "Automatically log facebook users in" setting if you want returning users to be logged in automatically if they are already logged into Facebook.com.

For the button, we'd recommend switching to the image button instead of the Javascript button. The image loads immediately and doesn't require Javascript to render, which is much faster in both mobile and desktop environments.

I hope that helps explain, but if you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the quick response, Alex. I knew I was overlooking a setting.

Regarding the button, can you point me to the documentation? I could've sworn I came across it at one point but can't find it now?!

Lastly, were you able to find the required modification to change the username format for automatic registration to "First Last" such that "John Doe" remains "John Doe" (with the space rather than john.doe or johndoe or fb_johndoe).

Thanks again, Alex.

In the SCLogin module are the options for the picture button. It's under the "Social Button Settings" with the name of "Button Type". Change that to "Icon" or "Icon with Text" and you should be good to go.

I'll respond to your other post soon. That takes a little more investigation, though it'll be a very simple change.

Thanks,
Alex

Ah ok ... is there a way to do it without using the SCLogin module? I ask because I have embedded the {JFBCLogin} tag into the main JomSocial guest login box, the standard registration form, and the Kunena profile section. Can I modify the tag somehow to call up an image button saved on my server?

In the next release (v5.1), the {JFBCLogin} tag will default to the image button with text. It will also automatically show the Google+ login button, if G+ integration is enabled.

If you can wait a week, I'd say do that instead of modifying the code which would take a bit more work.

Thanks,
Alex

Just took a glimpse of the blog post - very exciting stuff Alex.

Please tell me that 5.1 will still work on Joomla 2.5 + JomSocial 2.8?

I await with baited breath. :)

Absolutely we'll still be supporting Joomla 2.5 and JomSocial 2.8. We supported Joomla 1.5 for about 1 year after it's last release and call to no longer use. Joomla 2.5 won't reach that point for at least another year, which means we'll be supporting Joomla 2.5 for at least another 2-3 years.

JomSocial is in a similar boat. I think right now we won't install the social profile plugin on JomSocial 2.4 or lower, which is a few years old now. We don't plan to change that low level for a while either.

With that said, the profile plugin for JomSocial will have some special features just for 3.0, like importing the cover photo from G+ or FB, but all the other features should work on previous versions as well.

I hope that helps, but if you have any other questions, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks Alex.

Perhaps you can make an extension that teaches other extension publishers how to provide real support!! You'd make a killing lol.

We wish all devs did provide the support we did. It would make things much easier for us as well. Until that happens and pigs fly, then you know where to find us. :)

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:

Thanks, and good luck,
Alex
