Hi!

I'm trying to use Facebook Tab + Login Button, but it's too slow. About half a minute to complete.

I'm doing it:

Application as page tab:
- Reveal Page Article ID: <<article ID with an image -- click like button>>
- Tab Page URL: <<URL - image + login button>>

Login/Logout Tab:
- Enable New User Redirection:Yes
- New User Redirection: << thank you page>>

SSL certificate is working well.

Everything is working, but too slow.

Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

Best regards,
Leonardo Ogata

Is it possible to load the "New user Redirection page" in another window? Directly in the site, not in Facebook?

Leonardo,
There's a few reasons the page could be loading slowly. Most importantly, how long does it take to load on your site when not in a Page Tab?

Beyond that, it can be that Facebook hasn't cached much of your page yet (something that will speed up a little over time). It can also be location of your server in relation to Facebook's. By using the Page Tab, the user is going to Facebook. Facebook is fetching the page from your site and doing some checks and then returning it to the user. That's a bit extra work, so any slowdowns in connections along the way will build up.

If you want us to take a look, let us know the URL you have configured as the Page Tab URL as well as the actual Facebook Page. We'll gladly see if there's anything obvious we can see wrong.

For the New User Redirection, that's not possible. As mentioned above, everything goes 'through' Facebook, and I don't think they'd allow a redirection outside of their Page Tab area. You can create links that have a target="_BLANK" attribute to open a new window though.

I hope that helps answer some questions, but if you have more, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex!

I saw some pages doing it.

My Home Page: www.facebook.com/pages/Tudo-de-C%C3%A3o/...=app_448755141862311

Fanpage opening another window: www.facebook.com/academiasocial/app_162979867158118

Thanks!

Leoog,
Can you post the actual URL on your site that is loading in the Page Tab so that we can test there to understand why things may be going slowly.

As for the redirection, it likely is possible to redirect out of the Page Tab or Canvas area. However, it's against Facebook App Policies to do so. Please see term I.11 below:

The primary purpose of your Canvas or Page Tab app on Facebook must not be to simply redirect users out of the Facebook experience and onto an external site.

If you choose to redirect off the site, Facebook can and likely will detect that and eventually ban your app. If it does that, all users that have registered on your site would no longer be able to login in again.

I'd highly recommend not trying that method and instead having users login to your site through the Page Tab. From there, you can link out to your site for them to see it in a full window if they want too.

Thanks,
Alex

Leoog,
Thanks for posting the original URL. I just tested logging in on both the original site and within the Facebook Page tab. It took about 3-5 seconds to login on each, which is pretty normal. Have you tested both ways, in the Page Tab and on your site, and are you seeing it slow in both?

I'm not sure what would be making it go slow for you. Looking at your live site, everything looks configured correctly and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. All I can suggest is to test with different FB users on different browsers and computers to see if there are any common times when the slowdown happens.

Let us know what you find, and how regularly you can recreate the problem. Again, from our side, things seems as speedy as we'd expect.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex!

I'll try to find out what is happening here.

It seems to be in the whole site, not just the JFBConnect.

Thanks for your help!

Sounds good. If you narrow things down or have specific issues you think may be related to JFBConnect, just let us know and we'll gladly help how we can.

Thanks,
Alex
