Topic-icon Trouble installing Social Profiles-Jomsocial

Hello, I just bought and installed the JFBConnect extension for my joomla 2.5 site. I ran into an issue when trying to install the Social Profiles-Jomsocial plug-in.
I get this error: " This plugin requires JomSocial v2.4.0 or later to be installed. You are using v. Plugin Install: Custom install routine failure"

I am currently running the latest Jomsocial 2.8. version. I can't figure out why I am getting this error. I followed all documentation all seemed to go accordingly. Would there be something I may have missed? Please assist.

Pete,
I don't think it's something you missed. It sounds like something's going wrong with our version detection of JomSocial, but it's not an issue we've heard of before. That plugin does have some version detection in it to ensure that it's not installed on too old of a version of JomSocial. The way we check is to basically ask Joomla what version is installed. It seems like your site is responding differently than we'd expect.

Can you go to the Extensions -> Extension Manager -> Manage area and search for JomSocial. You should see it in the list. Check that the version there is properly filled out and all the data looks correct. If you can't find it, or the version is empty, that would be incorrect.

Let us know what you find and we'll gladly help you investigate further.

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your relpy. I have checked the jomsocial component in the extensions manager like you described and have come to find out that the version field is blank! I dont know why this is.

How can I go about fixing this issue?

Pete,
The best I can suggest is to re-install JomSocial. All your settings should remain intact. If the version information is missing there, then it's possible other aspects of the installation didn't fully complete as well, which re-installing should fix as well. If you've made any modifications to their code, they would be overwritten, so be careful of that.. but generally you shouldn't be modifying their code directly.

I hope that helps, but if that's not possible or doesn't work, we can help force the JomSocial social profile plugin to install through alternative methods.

HI Alex,

Thank you for your help. I contacted the support over at Jomsocial and wanted insight on what i should do. It ends up that I had some custom coding in the database from an old jomsocial version. It seems it as causing conflict and the plugin was looking at the wrong component that had no version number. They deleted the custom coding that I no longer needed and the install of the social profiles worked.
